WDW Ft Wilderness

Postby pjo129 » Sat May 03, 2014 10:58 pm

Just made our reservations for July at Ft. Wilderness at Disney World. Anyone else been there? Impressions? Thoughts? Suggestions?

Ft Wilderness is without a doubt the most civilized campground I have ever visited. That said, it is not inexpensive. But neither is it roughing it. If you like WDW in general I think you will love Ft Wilderness.

We stayed at a Disney hotel, Port Orleans Riverside, but took the bus to Ft Wilderness to check it out and it looked good. The nice thing about staying at a Disney hotel or the campground is you just get on their bus to whatever park you want, Magic Kingdom, Epcot, Animal Kingdom or Hollywood Studios. There are two bus routes through the campground, they just take you out to the entrance where you board another bus to whatever park. We never moved our car the entire 5 days we were there. Heard there is a fantastic buffet at the Fort Wilderness Lodge. We used the Disney food plan the last two times we were there. December 2012 we had the Quick Serve plan, and got plenty to eat. December 2013 we got an offer of the better meal plan for free if we booked 5 days at a Disney hotel. This included one full service restaurant sit down meal per day. Food was fantastic, we ate too much, but it was great. Only downside to that plan is you need to make reservations way ahead and it uses up a lot of time that could be used on attractions or rides. 2012 was supposed to be a one time treat for daughter's family but we had such a good time we repeated it Dec. 2013. Unfortunately skipping it this year :( I'm 67 and think I had as much fun as the grandkids that are 7, 12, and 14 !!!
