While I was up at the IRG, someone asked me...."so Doug, what's the new craze?". I guess I've gotten a reputation for starting crap like that, I told them, don't worry, it's all picked out and we are currently field testing it. Well, here it is!
I've always been a sales type person and promoter of nonsense so this fits right in. We've gone through the waffle iron phase, pushed the Coleman products, and through the findings of Rich and Penny, the waffle dog which resulted in skyrocketing prices and someone doing some repops on them. Now, through Kevin's diligence and tenacity we present..........The Cloverleaf Doughnut form! Can you imagine FRESH doughnuts when camping! Well, we had them at our annual Wolf Creek campout!
These first appeared probably in the teens, we have no official date on them for sure, I came up blank on the patent number on it. There were 2 manufacturers on them. ALB and ACE. The ace is a bit larger than the ALB, and there are 6 "holers" available as well. We have an authentic recipe and it can be easily doctored with flavors and the center isn't completely hollow so a drop of jams/ jellies, cream filling etc...will work great! We made pumpkin spiced ones, chocolate and a nutmeg flavored doughnut. Easy to do, right on the Coleman stove! We filmed a video, but it leaked out, so we figured we needed to go ahead and let the proverbial cat out of the bag. Several of us already have the irons in our possession. Another fun item for camping and a bit unusual. Now to start working on an official association with a patch in program.....hmmmmmmm
They are tough to come by so keep your eyes open, however, more may start appearing on e-bay as the interest grows. While we didn't use the 6 holer, I wouldn't get carried away trying to find one of them....they would be tough to pour all 6 and use it as they are very heavy and they don't pour quickly.
I believe that Dean has a video he can post as well. Doug
