Trailer value?

Postby 48Rob » Sat Feb 07, 2015 10:35 am

What is the average value/selling price for a 2004 Little guy 4 wide?

It is the basic tail gater model.
No rot, no leaks, good condition.

Thanks!

Rob

Anyone?

It isn't a trick question or anything sinister...

I have a chance to buy one, and am looking for opinions.

It is a basic model, 4 x 8, 2 doors, bed, and galley hatch with shelf.
No water, no gas, no sink, no stove, no anything.

Ok, ya got me there! ;)
I may have a beer tap for sale soon, with the charge bottle and lines...

Thanks Mary!
I haven't called the manufacturer as it is a 2004 and they are in the business of selling new ones...
I've researched on the Internet and have a basic feel for value, but was hoping for real world experience and opinions.

I don't need the trailer, as I already have one, but I "think" it is priced below market value and so I could buy it, renovate it, let the kids use it this summer, and then sell it without loosing any money.

Looks like an opportunity...

I'd go $1500. No more than $2000. Provided of course, it's not a project.

These are the cheapest models they make. I think new you can find them around $5k.

Thanks everyone, for your help!

I decided to buy it as I felt the price was low enough to leave some room for updates.

It was listed for $1500 and I got it for $1400, seemed pretty fair.

My plan is to invest $500 or so in parts, and another $500 or so of labor into cleaning it up, doing maintenance and rehab such as cleaning and repacking the wheel bearings, polishing the paint and fenders, cleaning and painting the tongue, and adding amenities that a future buyer would want.

Installing a new mattress is a given.
I think adding some sort of storage container/box on the tongue would be popular too.

If you were, or are, in the market for a $2500-$3500 bare bones basic teardrop like this, what amenities would be at the top of your list?
(keeping in mind the $500 or so budget).

Is the allure of an "inexpensive teardrop" ruined when the price goes higher, even if it is because things are added that you want?
Or would most of you seek out an inexpensive model so you could add more things less expensively than buying a better equipped model to start with?

In short, do you think I should add things like electric, fans, lighting, battery systems, sinks, etc. or just leave it alone?

I like the suggestions you made about the tongue box and the new mattress, but I don't think you would add much value with the other stuff. If it were me, 12V lighting would be a big plus, but I'm not sure it would move the price up much.

Thanks Tom,

Do you think that because of the trailers size, or?

With it being a base model I would suggest simple electric. As in one outlet inside and one in the galley for charging small electronics, small clip up fan, small kitchen appliance, etc. Let the new owner add the "plug in" items. Any added storage would be a plus. 12 volt in one that small would require finding a place for the battery and that would take up needed storage. I would think that someone going with that model would be stepping up from a tent and won't miss a battery run power system but being able to plug an extension cord in for power when available would be nice.

Mostly the size, but also, I think its worth about 3500$, adding the other things probably won't raise that but they might make it sell faster. I looked at the LG website. I'd suggest adding the 12V/110 power, a sink and an entertainment center. The Sink, because every first time TD shopper thinks they need a sink, the ENt center because your probably looking at a younger demographic, and most of them like their ipods and music.
The base LG 4 wide sells for $7K, I don't see why you shouldn't be able to get 1/2 of that at least.
