Looks realy good bob,those bed heads couldnt be any better designed to fit your build they realy look the part.

OK Ol Bob's on a roll...............

Despite the second hottest days we have had this year I plowed on with the caboose exterior.



Here is where we left off last week

I got busy on the grab bars and the railing

Got the trim installed on the back door.

No welder this weekend so I did a bolt and screw job to get the railing installed.
The best result was the door swings full and misses the table / brake wheel by 3/4 of an inch

In the next two pics I need some help! Look at the 48" on center battens and I just stood the short one in to show 24" o/c. The question will 24" o/c be too much or is 48" too little?

There was a lot of sweat put out this weekend. Saturday morning started out heartbreaking as it was pouring rain at 8 am and the skys were black

I had things to do and didn't have time for this. Luckily about noon the skys cleared and I was able to get started.

There are a lot of little things that don't really show in the pictures. The bottom trim board and the battens. Taping all the corners with barrier tape to keep out water infiltration and Installing the corners. The trim on the front ( no pics ).

I was dog tired but am so proud of the look. Now I have got to get my roof guy to look at that wrinkled mess.

Bob, my usual taste would be for shorter distances, but in this case, the 4 foot sections appeal more to me.

Sharon I was not ignoring you I just didn't have an answer. The caboose is almost an hours drive from work. In the winter it will be worse. The house in a house is 45 minutes closer. Should the " powers that be " at work, get stupid I will probably just quit and should that happen the tiny house would actually be my winter house of choice. It is smaller and will be much easier to heat and with 6 tree covered acres (that seriously need some pruning and loving) the concept of wood heat appeals to me because it will be free.



I am franticly trying to get the exterior of the caboose its self and the support utilities in place. I DID get to utilize my 2000 watt inverter this weekend with some of the power tools. That is something almost magical about making 120 ac off of a couple 6 volt batteries.

The wider spacing will make it easier to put on the caboose graphics. I am looking to keep with my Hoosier roots and have sourced some signage for the MONON line. There colors were more red but most folks don't know who had what color so I think I will settle on their graphics


I want 2 of these in porcelain finish for the sides



and this badge goes on the center upright of the observation platform in the rear.

I have printed off other graphics that will have to be projected onto the side and hand painted.

Well the picture are somewhat the same but if you look close you will see the trim is now all on. I put this rather expensive sealing tape on all the cracks and crevices before adding the trim boards. I used the same tape to seal off the air conditioner as well. It is mounted in place weatherproof taped and ready for halo trim.




The rubber roof looks a lot nicer tucked in and finished off




Decided on 24" o/c battens and am real pleased with the look



Even took time to rake and clean up the area and had my very first bonfire.

Bob, if you ever need to pull your caboose again, here's your tow vehicle. It was posted on the list for my little home town in Colorado, but I really don't remember seeing around town when I was a kid (1960s-1970s)
