You might inquire with a service like "uShip"...

Have heard of them, becasue in VW world us cheap people ship engines and transaxles and in blacksmithing world we ship anvils and forges also... The name comes up and with good recommendation.... Only caveat is whoever is packing object to be shipped, DOES IT WELL, but that goes for any shipping company.....

I have been contacted by a fellow Tear Jerker just 10 miles from my prize!
Looks like he is willing to help me out at that end.
Now I just need to find a carrier.
Thanks again for the lead.

Trucking or Freight Business

Postby Ned B » Mon Nov 09, 2015 11:44 pm

I'm in the industry, but not on the right side of the equation. I work for the nation's largest trailer load carrier.
If I had to ship one skid, or similar I would contact fedex, they have loads of options. I'd guess either Ground or Freight, mainly separated by size and or weight of the item. Barring them, you're looking at UPS or Yellow/Roadway for LTL or Less Than Load freight.

I have used ABF for shipping. They can ship anything.

They are also known as UPACK. If you are shipping a household, they have 8' x 8' x 10' containers. The containers are nice clean and you lock them -- they give you up to 2 weeks to fill/empty it as part of the fee. They have pickup at your house or at their warehouse at either end. The people were nice, friendly and helpful. They are much cheaper than PODS or some of the others. I cannot recall if it was a flat rate per container or per pound.

If you are looking to ship a vehicle, there are lots of car haulers. They generally can do west to east very easily (space is often available). East to west seems to be a harder to find service. (too many full rigs)

Thanks everyone.
I may have my shipping problem solved,
Fastenal has 3rd party shipping service that is very reasonable.
Now I am working on the packing problem at the other end.

YOUR KILLING US BRIAN!

None of our business but we still want to know what you got? Hope that what ever it is, you are able to get home okay. Knowing you, you have looked at every possible angle to figure a way that you could make a TD trip out of retrieving it.

Hi Mikey
Two things:
1. teardrop trip wouldn't work because my new toy would have to come home on another trailer, unless I had a PU that it could ride in the back of while pulling the TD.
2. I have been across that part of the country and have absolutely no desire to ever do it again. I I ever go east again I will fly over South Dakota & Nebraska
And what did I get?
A new horse! Well maybe new to me, but it is an old Wheel Horse Garden Tractor.

Brian

When I read "a new horse" I thought that I would offer the loan of a saddle and you could ride it back but after further study, I see that your "horse" is actually a tractor and you would be in no need for a saddle. I was then going to suggest a quick flight out and a bit of a slow ride back on your new found tractor but I noticed a certain lack of enthusiasm for a tractor ride across our fine prairie states (there actually seemed to be significant level of reluctance to travel across the mid-west in any sort of contrivance). So I have judiciously chosen to make neither suggestion and only wish you well in your endeavor.

However upon further thought, I have come up with a solution, and that is, you can move down to the sunny and warm southwest and thereby negate the need for a tractor at all. So see, that was easy! I can only guess that even as you are reading this, you are figuring out the logistics of such a move and calling who ever in PA and letting that person know that you will no longer be in need of said tractor/horse as you are moving to the sunny and warm southwest and will no longer have any grass to mow. Will you look at that, problem solved.
