The clouds broke up just in time, we had a good view of the launch in St Augustine too ! Truly a memorable 4th of July.

My view of this launch sucked:

I had the satellite radio on in the car, CNN, which followed the whole lift-off flawlessly. But because this was a midday launch in heavy sun, all I saw was an itty bitty smoke trail going up.

Other times, it was late in the day, or less sun, or more of something ELSE which made it more spectacular to watch-- where you could see the flame/trail much more impressively.

Well, the main thing is, it lifted off safely.

We'll see if I have that same luck tonight with my 3,000 rockets and 5 mats of firecrackers plus other explosives.

The night time launches are by far the most spectacular. The whole sky lights up in a cool red orange color.
And thats here in central Florida. Out by the coast it has got to be fabulous.

Great to see it get up again.
Lets all hope that all goes well.

Yes but it is under funded right now. I am hoping this next craft will get up and on its (umm) wings without to many problems. Who knows I may even get to work on it if I graduate in the next few years. Electro mechanical engineering dork here. But at the rate I am going it will be a very long time before that. How many are they building? I have kind of lost track of this new project. Later and happy 4th.

The thing I loved about going to shuttle launches was the sound it makes. To me, it sounds like a flag whipping in high wind, but the sound is so loud that you feel it right thru your body.

Never went to a landing but I saw it coming down, while I was at work once. That thing dropped like a rock!

Isn't the next generation of ship supposed to be able to travel further? Also, I think I heard that it won't have fuel tanks that jettison, but rather, it will all be self contained.
