New CA state park campground proposed near Piedras Blancas

A new California State Parks campground has been proposed at the site of the old, ocean front, Piedras Blancas Motel on Calif. Highway One 17 miles north of Cambria, California. The plan is to renovate and re-open the Piedras Blancas Motel and cafe, add more parking, 14 new cabins, 29 new camp sites and build several miles of coastal trails. The location is close to Hearst Castle, the Piedras Blancas elephant seal rookery, Cambria, San Simeon and is a gateway to Big Sur

I'm excited about the plan and hope it's completed and operational soon! It could be a great location for future teardrop gatherings!

There is a new one coming to the south too.

We are two miles away and can smell it this morning, beaches are closed again.

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - Many residents living in and around the polluted Tijuana River Valley expressed frustration this week with a plan to use taxpayer money to fund a campground instead of working on a fix to the raw sewage pouring over the border from Mexico into San Diego County.

California Senate Bill 507 was signed by Governor Jerry Brown last month and allotted $1.5 million towards a campground and only $500,000 to study potential fixes to the sewage.

“It seems like it’s the bastard child of San Diego and it just sucks. It’s not fair,” said Ginger Sacco of the Citizens Against Sewage group.

“I can’t imagine people in their right mind wanting to camp down here knowing all the sewage and toxins that have been coming through here,” said Sacco.
