Anybody Hear From Andrew Gibbons?

Postby grant whipp » Wed Jun 08, 2016 2:16 pm

I haven't been keeping up with things, here, very well, but I was surprised to discover last night that Andrew's site (the Design Library) is gone/non-operative ... ...!
Did I miss something? Sure hope he's all right ...

No word but I echo your concerns. I believe I accessed his website last week.

Andrew's Design Library is still down. Does anybody know where I can get the trailer balance xls sheet that used to be on this site?

Also. it is a pity that all these designs are gone. It was VERY helpful and well designed.

Hi all,

Firstly, thank you Juneaudave for the wayback machine link. That is very helpful.

Secondly, what happened to Andrew? He was a very active member of this community, and if something happened to him I am sure that many of us would like to know. Forgive me if I am sticking my head into something here, but I have not visited the forum for some time, and might not know of any new happenings here. So, all feedback will be welcome.

Thirdly, would it not be helpful to point the "Design Library" link at the top of every TNTTT page (found under "Design Resources") to either a new page with Andrew's designs, or perhaps the Wayback-machine link? I believe many newbies might find all these designs very valuable as a basis to work from. I know that I spent HOURS looking at the different designs when I first started out, and tweaked my trailer balance to get it just right by using Andrew's incredibly handy Trailer Balance Excel sheet. It would really be a pity if all these designs are lost.

:NC We believe Andrew went to the great designing, boat and trailer building place in the sky.
If I were to hazard a guess, I'd say maybe a sudden stroke or heart attack. Wherever he is I hope he is blessedly happy.

I wasn't yet a member of the tnttt world when Andrew was active in designing. I am very impressed with his designs found in the Design Library and now via the way back machine. I'm dreaming of building his version of the Compact III.

Being an ancestry buff I was very curious and tried to find information about him, however, the bulk of the information is on tnttt with several folks saying in 2016 that they tried to contact him but received no replies. I assumed he is British (that might be from a suggestion I've read on the forum) so I searched obits from several areas of the UK. Andy and Andrew Gibbons is a very common name over there. A reference I found had him in Newcastle but I was not sure that was the teardrop designer. And there were several obits for Andrew Gibbons. I'm trying to nail down an approximate year he was last heard from here on tnttt.

I did find a reference to a design of his in an article about the Roswell Teardrop from January of 2018. An interesting article but unfortunately it doesn't give much information other than he was a design engineer from Newcastle.

https://www.outandaboutlive.co.uk/caravans/articles/general/did-this-teardrop-caravan-come-from-outer-space

In this article an A. S. Gibbons is given most of the credit in the References . It appears he wrote several papers on Model-Centered Instruction. Is this Andrew?

My apologies if I am just digging up information that some of you already knew.
