Well, they are sending me a new battery from a US warehouse and paying for 50% plus shipping. . So real cheap, but not a totally free replacement; however, I will get it quickly. It is just one cell they paid half of and there was MOQ of 2 from US warehouse due to packaging. Price was a discounted price based on what I paid in Jan. 2021and their warranty concessions. Given current Ebay prices for a single Eve 3.2v 280aH cell, I can sell the extra cell for more that I paid for both and then I should break even at a minimum. I may hold on to the extra cell for a while to make sure I have no other issues, but looking back, the bad cell was acting up almost right away.. it just got to a point where the BMS protection intervened and I got concerned enough to investigate.
I did have to negotiate quite a bit to get anything. Once you accept the delivery and then use the batteries, they like to say you did it by overcharging and etc. The 5 year warranty is basically useless marketing tactic. They tried to say leaking is due to damage and since I didn't reject at receipt, I must have did it. It was hidden damage if that was the case. I made the case for hidden damage and less than 80% capacity.
As always, buying from a China seller is a risk, but I have done it enough successfully to be able to take a few losses. In this case, I think I will break even at a minimum assuming I can sell second cell on Ebay at going prices. At least not a total loss and I will recover the 280aH battery pack which was useless without the replacement cell.
