Any suggestions on a trailer dealer to use for getting a quote on a gooseneck cargo trailer? I have only received a quote from one salesman so far and the price he quoted is about 60% higher than it should be. It almost seems like they quoted an outrageous price because they don’t want to build a custom gooseneck.[/quote]

Did you check with Kaufman Trailer in NC ? That,s where we ordered our Cargo trailer. Very good prices.

Thanks for the suggestion regarding Kaufman icomguy. I finally found a dealer and a manufacturer that would build a gooseneck cargo trailer for a reasonable price. I ordered the gooseneck the week after Christmas and I will start a build thread for that trailer when I start the conversion.

Got the KTM-690R loaded up. Just need to add clothes and food and I'll be heading out Monday when my official isolation is done. This round of Covid was lighter than the first time.

You may know about this website, but anyway there's lots of free campsites along your route...

Got the new 280aH cell top balanced with the other three in the bank and re-installed the bank back into the CTC. Back at 510aH of capacity.

280aH bank is looking great! 230aH bank is the same. Glad to have it all fixed up before I leave. Actually leaving today. All is going well so I am taking off.

For any interested, I'll be posting some 5 minutes or less videos every other day or so of my adventures.

Do both BMS units have bluetooth monitoring? I see you have a stand alone voltage and current monitor with a dedicated shunt. Do the BMS units contain an internal current shunt that measures discharge current and remaining amperage? I read where you said that both banks were discharging equally even though they have different capacity ratings.

Have fun on the latest adventure! also be careful out there.

Yes, both batteries have their own BMS and Bluetooth monitoring. The BMS has it's own shunt or some means to measure throughput. The SOC gage is not real accurate however, so I am not sure if the are coulomb counting or just estimating.

I do have a standalone shunt to monitor the whole system. It is what I use for SOC of the system and etc.. The BMS Bluetooth I really just use for monitoring the individual cells to make sure everything stays balanced and healthy. That how I picked out the cell that was leaking before a catastrophic fail.

Yes they will each do their own thing based in their internal resistance. If they are way off, it is usually a connection on one cell. I had that happen right off.

They run real close to the same discharge until the tail end.. in any case, the individual BMS will shut itself down if the 230aH reaches its lower limit before the 280aH.

I have been reading lots about the large capacity LiFePO4 cells and commercial off the shelf BMS units the last few days. It appears the BMS units do use an internal Coulomb counter circuit to calculate remaining capacity.

Regarding the tendency for separate LiFePO4 banks of differing capacity staying balanced, it is my understanding this can be attributed to three reasons.

First is the inherent discharge voltage characteristics of a LiFePo4 battery where the discharge voltage remains almost constant from 100% capacity to roughly 30% capacity, varying only about .2V

Second reason is the charge balancing function performed by the BMS ensures full charging of each cell, and during discharge the active balancing function of the BMS compensates the weaker cells with available voltage from stronger cells in the bank to help prevent imbalance and subsequent output shutoff with usable capacity remaining in the stronger cells.

Third is simply the available depth of discharge, or usable capacity inherent to the LifePO4 chemistry. In a less than ideal application where two different capacity battery banks are paralleled, the smaller capacity battery may have sufficient available/usable power to support large loads for a useful period of time.

Of course you probably already know this, but I figured I would share a little of what I learned while reading up on how to assemble a LiFePO4 battery bank similar to the one you put together.
Here is some information that may be useful. https://www.electronicdesign.com/power- ... nt-systems
