M&M's Droppie

Time to fit the wheels on the trailer. Spacers finally arrived after months of waiting. The rims where rusty so I put my angle grinder to work...

Easy way to keep paint of the tires…

Perfect result with minimal effort.

Been busy with the build. The weather continues to be diy-friendly.

Image
Second layer of 2k paint on the galley hatch.

Image
Also the TD got a second layer of paint.

Image
Preparation for glueing the aluminum diamond plate on the front.

Image
Waiting for the glue to set.

Image
Installed the hurricane hinge on TD and the hatch.

Image
Edge trim and lights mounted.

Tomorrow I will flip the hatch and fix the spot lights on the inside and glue in the rubber d-seal. Also the moment to install the improvised hatch lock.

Since Vintage Technologies does not ship to The Netherlands I could not order their hatch latch.

After a lot of browsing I decided to modify an espagnolet latch. I took it all apart and combined it with a Lockable T-grip that I modified to fit the latch.

This is the result.

And now it’s time to fit the hatch to the TD. Hopefully someone can help me this evening to slide it into position.

Hopefully someone can help me this evening to slide it into position.

I have always attached the (full) hurricane hinge to the hatch, laid a strip of butyl tape along the edge of the roof, and set the hatch in place. Once it's perfect, I screw down the upper portion of the hinge.

Knowing me, I'd monkey up the hinge by trying to slide it in. :frightened:

This weekend I planned to get TD closed.
Except for the left side aluminum profile I succeeded.

The xxl stargazer window was installed. I used 10mm polycarbonate that I cut to size. On the inside I created two shallow gutters that lay on the 50mm and 3mm thick butyl tape. The butyl filled these two gutters so I hope it will be watertight. Future will tell.

Image
Doors for the Lafuma garage are ready. Other doors got a last coat of paint.

Image
Fabricated the doors.

Image
Mounted locks and net on the inside of the doors.

Image
Fitting the stargazer window.

Image
Perfect fit.

The inside of the cabin got its final coat of paint. Also installed the windows and doors.

Next week the gas struts will be fitted. That task worries me a bit. But I will manage I hope.

This evening completed some small tasks…

Image
Lights and cover for the Maxxfan installed.

Image
Reading lights and usb charger installed.

Image
Exterior light fitted. And I had to remove the door on the right hand side because I didn’t like the way it closed, needed too much force.

Image
On the way to road legal…

Image
Image
Doodling with the wiring.

Image
Image

Also figured out the way to mount the struts with the help of noseoil.

Good thing I designed everything in SketchUp and build accordingly. As a result fitting the struts was a very easy task (with some help from Tim (noseoil) and the excel gas strut calculator.

Biggest challenge was finding a position that resulted in an acceptable height and keeping it closed when down. In the end I just did it.

Everything went smoothly, but when pushing the hatch down the screws broke out…. So off to the diy store.

This is the result:

If I knew how to include a movie of the hatch opening I would have added it… it opens very smoothly.

I call this succes!
