Maiden voyage

Postby UK-Corlett » Thu Nov 02, 2006 7:10 am

Hi All

I thanked this forum for the help during construction and now I have to say thanks again as I have just had my first experience of life on the edge, and it was just what I had hoped for, GREAT....

Norfolk, Bath, St Ives- Cornwall, Brecon Beacons - Wales, Hay-On-Wye, Malvern, Home. 1050 miles. Average temp /day 10C(50F) /night (3C(38F). Strong winds and rained heavily most days. Did this dampen our spirits? NO! :)

Despite the weather, typical for October, we were warm as tost and dry and happy. Roll on summer.

In the UK - Camping, is not popular in October.

Make shift awning. It was far too windy for anything bigger.

But it was all worth it. When it stopped raining the views were stunning an the autum colours were fantastic.

lessons learned:-
A little condensation which, I quickly fixed, with 6 carpet tiles and a newspaper.
Too hot at night - it needs more vents.
The kitchen area is now designed in my mind and will be build this winter.
I have decided I do not need mains power in it and will spend my money on battery driven devices.
It needs a little awning making, to take the weather off the door.
I found my last leak and plugged it.
I called in at IKEA and now have, sprung Larch bed springs/lats and a thin but comfortable mattress.

Clive

PS - I see every one wants badges for 1000 posts plus could I have one when I make 10.

Looks Great! :applause: Wind/cold, it won't someone from a planned first outing!

I agree a 12VDC system will get you by in most cases, that's my prime system. However, it may not be bad to carry an protected (GFCI or Earth Ground [whatever the name for it is in Europe is]) extension cord for the just in "cases".

Congrats on the outing!

Hi MOKI

The lights are from a Re-fit set of series 2 landrover.
They are plastic lenses. I also bought two spare Red lenses to convert two of the indicators to UK Fog lamps.

I think the best value thing I got for TD.

Seems again we need a designation for those smart who built without a bunch of questions and chatting.

Clive It looks like you need a top vent and opening windows. Thanks you for posting the pictures. They are great.

Happy you had a good time.

Hi Miriam C

I was thinking of a boat deck vent like this - £25. Some come with a solar powerd fan - £45.

As I have posted before the look of the thing is very important to me.

Hi Clive,

Do you have a manufacturer for that fan, or a distributor?

It may be just what we need for the Silver Shadow.

Thanks, Mark

Hi Sid

The easy answer is no. My local chandles has them.

However I googled and came up with these search names. They are on Ebay as well

"WATERPROOF VENTILITE " and "Plastimo" and " NICRO VENTILTION SYSTEMS" and "chandlers" and "deck vent"

Good hunting: Clive

UK looks like a good time. Any time camping is a good time by me. I would love to see more of your TD.
Sid I found these. http://www.westmarine.com/webapp/wcs/st ... tId=149254 I am still thinking about adding one.

Yep, I have the solar fan/vent from west marine in the Daisy D. I can set it for exhaust or intake. The fan does not provide enough breeze to cool me off, but it does recirculate the air, I hope enough to relieve any condensation. I still have not taken my first voyage yet.

Notice I also have a larger crank out vent.
