Steve, Thanks so much :) it means a lot coming from you. You have built some beautiful teardrops from the pictures I’ve seen.

The spoke wheels are originals. The trailer frame and the wheels were covered in rust from sitting in my brother-in-laws back yard for 20 – 30 years. It originally had some sort of teardrop on it when my husband’s dad got it and put it in the yard, but the trailer was already falling apart then. My brother-in-law has been cleaning up the yard and he and my husband got to talking about the trailer. My husband, David, wanted to see if any of it could be salvaged as we had talked before that it would be fun to have a teardrop trailer and he liked the wheels.

My husband’s uncle sandblasted everything. The wheels cleaned up beautifully and were in great shape  and much of the frame was made of galvanized steel and that cleaned up beautifully. The tires survived as well, which are the ones that are on it now, of course we will be buying new ones before we start driving it. The parts of the frame that originally had regular steel angle iron didn’t survive, so the uncle welded on new pieces and then primed everything. His uncle likes to restore old cars as a hobby so fixing the trailer frame wasn't any big deal for him. That is the story of our trailer frame and wheels.

Martha

That is an interesting history on the trailer and components... really looking nice.. You,ll be getting a lot of attention on it when you go camping for certain...

you sure can be proud of it...wherever your travels take you.. :applause:

Is that the original fender there in the photo? Were you able to restore them? Id give it a try to do so.. I completely redid some real bad metal
on my 46 Chevrolet truck.. that was a project to do but I have the originals looking like new...after many months of work.

Classic Finn,

Actually that is the orginal fender in the photo. The problem is all there was with the trailer was the one fender not two. The same with the one hubcap, so it has served more to show us what was.

We bought the firberglass old Ford fenders in similar style to the orginal. From what I could see on vintage Ford parts websites buying replicas in steel of old fenders are VERY expensive. It made more sense to buy a pair of fiberglass ones. They aren't cheap but in comparrison to steel replicas they are.

Hang on to that single fender you do have... you never know when you might find a matching one for it... Who knows it could even happen here on this forum... Yup the replicas are expensive indeed...

Your tear will look fabulous with the fiberglass ones too though...

Sure will be nice to see the progress being made on it...

Classic Finn,
They are 10 inches wide. It doesn't show on R.W. Johnson's web site, but would in his catalog. A catalog is available for $1. I have an old catalog that was part of the over priced Desert Teardrop plans and it has all the dimensions. They are made as an exact reproduction of the original 1932 -1934 Ford truck fender.
If you look down at top is 10 inches wide, from underneath where the tire goes is 9 3/4 inches wide. The total length from front to back at bottom is 48 inches. It is made for the old Ford 16 inch wheels. The orginal truck had a running board (see picture below) so R.W. Johnson suggests modifying the front edge of the fender a little by cutting some off because on the front inside starting at the bottom of the fender there an extension of 1 inch making the fender 11 inches wide. The extension is 7 inches long going up from front bottom of fender (see picture below), this was for the running board and looking at the Ford truck picture I would say it goes under the truck bed where there is a gap between the running board and the truck bed. If you were to measure around the top of the fender, like a circle it measures about 68 inches. In the picture of our profile David has already modified that fender and wasn't a problem. I hope my descriptions makes sense but I'm trying to give you as much detail as possible as Finland is a long ways from California.
You have a great build going yourself, Martha :)
I really like the wheels and fenders...are these the ones?
