Hey all, ultra light standy?

Postby Jeeper92 » Sat Sep 29, 2007 7:01 pm

I am almost done my 6x10x5 "camping box" and already have a friend offering me 800 bucks for it, its way more then it cost me to build it so i may sell it. I ve learned a lot about building during this process.

My question is this, how about an ULTRA LIGHT STAND WITHa bunch of gthings inside like air and tv and thigns of that nature

I was thinking luan backed by 1x2s no insulation,Its gotta be big adn its gotta be light, any ideas?

I just took the lightweight cub and scaled it up by a factor of 1.4375. That makes it 69" wide, 69" tall and 14' 4" long.

I kept the HF 12" wheels. Would you like to venture a guess as to the weight?

Okay, it's 1280 pounds. :o

I overbuild everything, but I know my projects will be around for my grandchildren to laugh at..

I think there are a lot of areas that can go on a diet. If you don't want insulation, there are even more. You are on target with the walls, do the same with the floor and bulkheads. Seriously, look at the Puffin build. It's pretty much exactly what you are talking about, a lightweight standy.

What do you consider "ultralight"? My standy is 850 lbs. I weighed just the other day at a small truck scale we were loaded and on a camping trip.

Take a look at the vintage plans at the top of the page. My favorites are "lil guy" "Midget" "wander pup" and the "Lightweight " also known as the wander bug. some really good ideas on light weight construction.

1/4" laun plywood backed with 1x2 members and no insulation.........my thinking exactly. The first 8 footer weighs less than 600 lb, and the 6 footer tips the scales at just under 250 lbs. So, a 6 ft high standy built that way would surely be ultra light.......Good luck, take pics, post em, smile and send money ;)
