Cheap sink for Galley

Postby BCC » Sun Feb 24, 2008 9:50 pm

I have been pricing small SS sinks at the Big Stores. They all run over 50 bucks. I have found what I think is a cheap alternative. At W mart I found a large SS mixing bowl. I used a dremel and cut out a hole and intalled a drain with plumbers putty. All I have to do is cut out hole in the countertop and install. The sink and drain cost a total of $15.

..yep, been done often...a visit to a restaurant supply store, will yield SS trays, from a steam table, that work quite well also... 8)

Make sure you get a bigger one, mine is almost to small.

Good luck.

Ya' know ...built -in sinks are nice , but take up a lot of space ...We bought a new plastic bucket to use as a sink ... also doubles for storage when not being used ...saves weight too ... ;)

Yea, Y'all are right. I haven't even hooked up the water inlet yet. Even though it looks cool, it's in the way.

Guys , we used to build Kustom Vans in the distant past... lots of cutsy little sinks/refrigerators,build ins... by the time we finished ,the vehicle was past its GVW , without the organic components ... :o We thought the whole ultimate concept of the TD's is simple indoor camping (no tents).. we love all the goodies folks put in their TD, but the weight adds up quickly...more to tow..all about driving .. and gas prices...

MJ, that thing about great minds ... hahahahaha 8)

No Sink

Postby ArtMini » Mon May 26, 2008 9:24 pm

I used to have a custom van years ago and had a nice little stainless sink in it that I never used. But my next few vans I bought a water jug that had a faucet in the top cap. when you laid it on its side the faucet faced down and you now had running water. it was great for washing up ect. When you were done you reverced the cap and stood the jug up on end. I guess thats the route I'm going again with this build.

Once you get used to using a simple bucket sink , you can always move up to a "double wide".. Image

I have to keep $$ in mind... I looked at the SS dog bowls at Ace and at the big SS bowls at Wally Marty and then realized that those Rubbermaid dishpans are what, $2.00 ? and come in RED .....

I am hoping to make a side table or a separate wash table and set the dishpan and dish drainer there, and just running a hose from the spicket.
K.I.S.S. Really I just use it for washing dishes. I keep wet wipes in the galley too, for hands.

LET'S GO CAMPING!!!!!
Some things are way over my head !! ...but it keeps me looking UP!

Jewel, I think these days we all have to mind our $$$...Multi-tasking the TD components ,saves both space (for all your other stuff) and weight...and is "Thrifty" too... Buckets require no cabinets/mountings, and can store other things during the travel phase...like soap, cleaners , paper towels, whisk broom...and perhaps a small mop (kiddie mop) for those occasional clean ups ... ;)
