Sunny & 76?

Postby Kykid » Thu May 22, 2008 12:14 pm

Ok for those of you that have skinned your tear and free floated the alum. do you think sunny & 76 is is hot enough for the expansion that I need? This is the first sunny day I've had with no wind you you can bet I'm a little anxious.

Thanks PK
I can't wait to see what I might learn next.

Tis the season. I am guessing---but if you turn it to the sun if it is going to expand it will 8)

PK, we cut our roof skins, a 1/4"narrower (1/8th perside) and apply(float) them in any weather...use a good grade of urethane based sealant such as SikaFlex 221 or 3M 5200...don't forget to put a dab in the screw holes....

I thought that I had read in several places that it was best to get the Alum. out it the sun so it would expand, then when it cooled it would be good and snug and when in the sun again even if it expanded it wouldn't buckle. I really am thankful for all the info offered from each of you so thanks Auntie M & Jack. Jack is that sealant pretty common at Lowes or Home Depot? I hope to do this tomorrow some time.

neither one would probably be available at the box stores...they may have something else similar...I usually goto an auto paint supply and get whatever one part autowindshield adhesive/sealant they have.....
