Roof question

Postby H@nk » Sun Jun 01, 2008 7:59 am

Hi all,

Since I have been building, the ceiling is in, also insulation and the outside roof section. There was a boatbuilder lately, said it was impossible to put some epoxy on top to make it waterproof. So the next thing has to be, how to make it waterproof? Is it possible to put with some glue-stuff to put an other roof on it made of aluminium?

:? Henk, why would it be impossible to put epoxy on top? I am real sure Doug does it every build and his are rock solid. You just need a few coats and only mix what you can do before it sets up.

After the epoxy you need to put some kind of UV coating on.

Traditional frame and plank boat builders have a difficult time sealing surfaces with epoxy because their planks shrink and expand, so that may be why the boat builder said what they said.

But with a continuous surface like plywood, where you seal the entire surface with epoxy, and all the edge grain, and preferably inside also, you will not have the same kinds of problems.

So I think sealing with epoxy is ideal.
