Painting using an airgun?

I have a spray gun that came with my air compressor when I bought it a couple fo years ago. I am building a cabinat for my living room that I would like to paint and the gun would make it easy. Can you use primer and enamel in the gun or do you have to cut it with somehing? Its a cheap HD branded compressor and gun. I posted this here because the same techniques could be used to do the interior of tear.

On an oil based enamel, I thin with xylol. Out of the can is too thick to push through a gun. Doug

...thin it to spray it...10-15% is usually more than enough....this applies to oil based as well as water based................

p.s. thin with water for water based and the appropriate solvent for oil based.......MJ

Make sure you clean the hell out of it when you are done ( warm soapy water for latex, mineral spirits for oils ) If not, you might as well chuck it in the trash

Hey just got a cheep airless ozeto for about $40, from the “cathedral” (Bunnings, same as Home Depot only painted Green), tried to thin the paint as per directions with the gun (water based dulux weather shield) big mistake.

Used it straight from the can used about 6 litres to paint a weekender inside and out.

But I guess that you have finished by now.
