What would you do?

Hey guys and gals, I need help deciding what color to paint my fenders. after viewing a thousand photos of teardrops, the standard would seem to be black. I'm in the midst of painting a retro two tone scheme and the fenders fall in line with a chrome strip that will separate the white top and the red bottom. what color would you paint them? I've included a drawing for your reference. Actually its preference. Many are just the black, such as mine are but they may be painted this fall to a metallic red or...black and red..

But also Ive seen them chromed if they are the metal fenders.

There,s a wide range of colors..

I still cant make up my mind but thats just me..

Id say this. Its your build so whatever you like goes best.

Paint them purple with yellow flames. That's a good bright color that will be noticed by everyone. It will also make your teardrop look like it's always moving (fast).

Hmmm. that depends.
Do you want to fit in, or stand out?
If you want to fit in, and look like other TDs, red/white/black is a can't lose, classic combination.
If you want to be unique, how about tan, or dark gray, or olive green (or purple with yellow flames)?
I have heard that black is easier to touch up. Good for patching those inevitable fender dings. Don't know if there's any truth to this.

If it were me, I would paint them the same color red at that is on the bottom. I would also use a chrome fender welt so it would tie in to the chrome strip you have seperating the colors.

Your door windows, what color is the glass and frame? If they are both dark (black) you already have three colors plus chrome in a relatively small area. How do you feel about introducing a fourth color?

Red fenders with chrome or white welting sounds good to me but, I must confess, I like anything in purple.

Midnight Blue a real deep almost black shade of blue. There ain't a red blooded American that will argue with red white and blue.

If it were me, I would paint them the same color red at that is on the bottom.

I second that, Then maybe some flames (not purple )

thanks guys for the input, they are all really good suggestions . i think I might try chrome fenders for two reasons, (one) they are a lot more durable against rock chips ( after 4 years of traveling around the country , my original black fenders looked like they were sandblasted), (and two) I was trying to capture the classic look of the old buicks,chevys,& chryslers from the fifties.they all seem to have a large chrome break in the trim line. again thank you. I'm with Gage, Flames are the way to go. I am looking at Red Flames on the Yellow Fenders.

If you're using fancy decorative fenders, I'd go white to match the top and provide contrast against the body. If you're using simple cheapo fenders (like mine), I'd paint them red to blend and disappear against the body. Don't use black. They'll stand out, especially if they're simple.
