Any thoughts? Leaking problems?
It's purely an aesthetics thing for me.

DANG!!!! 8 inches from tip to hinge pin would be a third of my door!!! But it would look cool if I could find the style a wee bit smaller!!

Yeah, that's just the first good picture I came across. Maybe on the galley hatch, though.

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!

don't you even think of it...those strap hinges have a massive amount of slop, and the pin isn't held in by anything other then gravity.
so don't even think of it.

You can also strip out the heads of a screw to prevent theft. If you're using soft stainless screws, you'll probably do it anyway by accident.

With this hinges most of the European RV trailers are equiped.
Most of the trailers have also doors made in two pieces, so you can close the down-door and open the upper door.

I don't know what's happened to Austin Hardware. The web site now refers you to local numbers instead of a single national 800 number. There is no telling what prices they are going to quote anymore. Maybe they're only interested in commercial accounts now.

Planovet, these may be the last of the infamous $15 Torpedo Hinges from Austin's for individuals like us. But, I just looked on the Austin's web site again and they do show a location in Rowlett which sounds like it might be pretty close to you:

4302 Industrial St
Rowlett, TX 75088
Phone: 972.475.0112
Toll Free: 800.527.5640

If you're still trying to get these hinges, maybe quick trip to see them in person could get the hinges you want at a reasonable price.

Hmmmm... I like the looks of those hinges and I also have a business that could be considered "in the trade" so I'll look into opening an account and see what sort of price they will quote me. If there is enough interest, I might have to order in quantity and resale to my friends here. This is only an idea, but I will look into it.

I called the Rowlett location today and it's not a retail store. They do have a walkup desk that you can pick up orders from. But for an individual like me, the price is still the same as quoted on the website. I really liked the look of the 4 hole hinges but I may have to go with the McMaster hinges. They look nice also.

mechmagcn, if you can get a good price on the 4 hole hinges let me know.

Toytaco2, I wish I had the hinges in your photo. I have hinge envy

Here's a link on another supplier of those Torpedo Hinges. Maybe they want to actually sell them at a reasonable price.

What about the afore mentioned "slop"

Yep, found them the other day and got a quote back on the 4 hole hinges, $24.24 a hinge. (7-04131-L-CH and 7-04132-R-CH). It's not $15 but it's a LOT better than what Austin was asking. I may order mine from them. The sales lady was very helpful via email. The funny thing is that they have 30 of the left ones in stock and only one right one. She said they will order more but it may take a few weeks. (BTW, they sell the 2 hole versions for $18.06.)
