Air Conditioning

Bought a small 110 unit at Wally World. My question for my build . Enclose it completely and vent it to the outside or let it hang out of the back? I have searched here and seen photos ot them enclosed and then the cabnet area it is enclosed in is vented. What about the water that developes in the unit that builds up. On a humid day I have seen a window unit produce alot of water. My only thought is if I enclose it make the area vented waterproof and maybe place a drain hose in the compatment for an overflow condition to drain out. Anyont that has had expericances both ways let me know which is the best method.

The builds that I have seen that have the air conditioner all inclosed usually put it inside a drip tray that has a pipe running underneath the tear for drainage.

Enclose it or let it hang out.... That's a personal choice. It is a topic that comes up repeatedly on the forums.

Each tear is an individual build after all is said and done. I wanted it not visible on my next build and that's why I recently started the thread http://www.tnttt.com/viewtopic.php?t=26822&highligh to address the same issue. There are plenty of people here who will give advice on either choice. I know what I am going to do, I wish you well on whichever you choose.

Mine is built into the galley but I wish it would have been put in the front of the Tear so I could close my galley when it's running. It's not vented so I have to leave the galley hatch open at night if it's running and that gives the coon's an open invitation.

Have you guys ever tryed anything like this? They're used on boats to blow in the hatch...we had one on a 26' sundancer and it froze us....

Would something like this work in the top vent of a Teardrop?

If you decide to enclose it you have to provide air flow to what would have been the outside part of the unit. You also need to separate the intake from the exhaust or it might just suck the hot exhaust air back in the intake and cause it to over heat. It's been done but if you check on back treads you'll find that there has been as many failures as successes.

The easiest way is to leave it's backside out side like it was designed to work and cover it with something when traveling.

Ours is mounted in the front wall over the tongue and has a cover to protect it when traveling and works great.

You have to do some heavy frame-up to handle its weight. besides,I'm not sure I like the look.

Looks were very important to me, and I didn't want one extra thing to set up when I got to the campground so I mounted mine inside. That part of it is all your choice, both ways works.

Mine is under the galley counter with the exhaust being vented using a bathroom vent fan, this box will be covered by a fake drawer door, to match the other drawers once I get to that part:



The air intake is separated from the exhaust box, and fresh air is sucked in through a vent on the side of the tear.

I'm thinking about putting a 14"x18" baggage door on the side of my future TD, then I can slip in a window A/C unit (17.5" x 11.25") when I set up at my camp site. For all those with a lot of experience with TD design/use, think it through for me please and see if there is anything I need to consider in doing this.

Graduated in 73' from White Castle High. Was a Richard before I married. I have relatives in D'ville. Larry (and Kaaren) Dugas, who was a high school Principal and owned the Scoreboard for a long time, is my first cousin. My sister works for Lemann's Farm Supply. I played softball in Donaldsonville so many summers and used to go to the club on Hwy 1, which has been closed forever...can't remember the name. Small world huh.
