Where did you do your Black Friday shopping?

Postby Gaelen » Fri Nov 28, 2008 4:14 pm

This is the first time in four years that I've had a Black Friday free to go shopping...but instead of the usual discount store 6 a.m. runaround, I decided to go down the road to the Bass Pro Shop and hit Staples, Tractor Supply and Big Lots on the way home. I nearly finished my holiday shopping in ONE trip!!!

BPS had zip-front microfleece jackets for $10 (mens, womens and kids). That was gifts for my mom, a brother, a brother-in-law, 4 nephews from 6-25 and my 9 y.o. niece (and one for me!). Then I picked up four assorted button-up turtlenecks for $12 each (sister and sister-in-law, and two for me.)

On the way out, I picked up some quail scent and a new whistle (again for me...M. is learning to work birds) but I didn't get the 2 qt 8-in Lodge dutch oven. There were none on the shelf and I didn't feel like waiting for them to check in the back (it wasn't on sale anyway.) Still...a little bit of embroidery thread to put everyone's initials on their fleeces or t-necks, and that's 10 gifts done.

Nothing special at Big Lots or TSC, but at Staples, I did score two 4GB SD cards for $10 each (one for my boss, one for another nephew who's a digital photo nut) and a 250GB portable hard drive for $59 (me again...gift-giving begins at home!)

I just checked through my list, and aside from making some ornaments and cookies, and wrapping everything, I'm *done*...no gift more than $12 (my budget is usually $15/gift or less. I need to pick up some Dunkin Donuts gift cards, burn some holiday music CDs and make some fudge for 'emergency' gifts--but this could be the first year in many that I've actually purchased just about every holiday gift before the beginning of December.

That means my holiday bonus check (which doesn't come for another two weeks) is mine, all mine!
:applause:

I spent mine at home watching the crazies on the news. Oatmeal for breakfast, leftovers for lunch and watching the LSU vs. Arkansas game on TV. All in all a good day.

First time in a lot of years I've had "Black Friday" off as well. All my Christmas shopping was done and the packages mailed last week. So today, I went "ME" shopping. Northern Tools, Harbor Freight, and TSC !! Didn't buy anything though. :(

They all were out of the few things I was looking for. At least HF and NT are only a couple blocks apart and TSC was on my way home, more or less.

I start my Christmas shopping in July and am usually close to done by now. I have one gift left to get and that's one that I have shipped directly to my niece...don't want it shipped too early.

So, today was for Me! My 'puter (5+ yrs) and printer (8+ yrs) are on their last leg and I don't want to be without! So, I took advantage of Wal-Mart’s sale. Got there just before 5 AM. It was crazy! There was a shopping cart traffic jam and I got hit where I sit by one cart at the same time I got hit in the front by another. I'm glad we weren't in automobiles! I found that I could slip in and out and down aisles better without the shopping cart; so, I picked up a desktop model and hand-carried it to the register. (Heavy sucker!) Took it home and made a second trip for the printer. Woohoo! :D

While I was in various lines, I started asking people what time they had gotten to the store. Most had gotten there between 3 and 3:30 AM!

Yahoo is reporting that an employee died of injuries sustained in the stampede in a NJ Wal-Mart store when the doors opened. (Wal-Mart won't comment.) Sure glad I wasn't in line at 3AM!!!!

Since we were done with our Christmas shopping prior to the weekend, we didn't do much. We went to Home Depot to get a plumbing part to repair the toilet.

But when we heard about the trampling death at Walmart on Long Island, NY, we became even more convinced that we need to continue to have our Christmas shopping done before Thanksgiving.

Boring? Yes. Sane! Yes!

We did go to Whole Foods and buy some Jalapeno Cheese bread. Yum yum! Tasty stuff!

My 1st time to do "Black Friday" shopping with Kim. 6 AM at Staples for an 8 GB memory stick, and a GPS, business expense items. Then I found out the real reason for going out this morning, Penny's was on the way home $>

There's always an ulterior motive when shopping is involved.

The GPS was just to get you out the door!!

I briefly considered going to WW this morning for the Garmin they had on sale...just couldn't bring myself to doin' it. 8)

I finally got smart about Black Friday. Instead of getting up at 4am and in line at 5am to wait for a store to open at 6am, I woke up at 6am. Got to Cabela's (open at 6am) at 7am, picked up the two items I was interested in (they had plenty of both), then headed on over to Radio Shack (open at 6am) and got there at 8am. I picked up the two items I was interested in (they had plenty of both) and headed home. No hassles, no one got killed like in Wal-Mart in New York. And way less stress for me.

HMMMM..... it's 7 PM on Black Friday. I suppose it's too late to go to Bass-Pro or Sportsmen's Outlet to get what I need for White Trash/Christmas at the Beach!!! Oh well. I got nothing better to do. $>

I should have gotten the two burner propane stove I was looking at in HF this morning; but it wasn't on my list!!!
