just thought i'd run my plans by you guy's to see what you thought before i crack on with it next week!
my plan is to build a ultra lightweight teardrop trailer to tow behind a ford pop based hotrod! its got a 34hp motor so not much power to pull a heavy trailer! (may not manage this one but we'll see)
i've allready got a pair of light suspention units and will mount them to a simple A frame useing 2"X2" angle. going with small 8" trailer wheels to keep the weight down and the hight as drag will also be a facter to worry about. the floor will be 1/2 inch ply on a 1 1/2 inch frame with 2 cross beems in the middle also a hatch in the floor to let your leggs through when sitting in it!. sides will be again 1/2 inch ply with just one door, and some 1" by 1 1/2" soft wood for the roof spars to mount a 1/8" in ply roof.
i'm putting a 1/2" ply shelf in th rear to put all the camping gear on when sleeping in it and it will also double up as a area to put the kettle on.
all cooking will have to be outside with this one.
the whole thing will be glued and screwed and given a few coats of paint to seal it from the rain.
think that covers the main points. still not sure whats available to seal the door opening in the uk.

The plan sounds good to me. Nice and simple, no complications, should come in somewhere between 250 and 350 kg.
Now what are you waiting for? GIT_ER_DONE

Welcome!

What Rigsby and Kenny said.

Plus, I guess you already looked at Angib's design and Steve Wolverton's Cowper.

Enjoy, and don't forget lots of :pictures: !!!

Hi there, welcome to the nut house. If you are carefull you can make a full 4x8 with a hatch etc less than 300kg. i haven`t had mine weighed yet but its below the 300 mark.

I used a custom chassis with a "T" of 2" box with a 1" angle square around it to fasten everything down to. I used 1/2" ply on the floor and bulkhead with 3/8" ply walls. I managed a simple galley and interior cupboards as well. In fact its for sale shortly........
If evvr tha dus owt fr nowt, allus do it fr thissen

wed, started to build the teardrop, cut both sides with a jigsaw and clamped them together, sanded them smooth round the cut edges, then predrilled the sides for the spars, cut the floor to size and made a frame to go under it, screw n glued the base together

today fitted the sides to the floor, and glued and screw'd the roof spars in place!
that done glued the spars and sides and fitted the 1/8ply roof front section nailing it to the sides. clamped the whole thing down with some ratchet straps, sat back and had a couple of beers.

took some pic's but still having problems loading them to my computer so ill add them later.

today fitted a two section shelf, at half hight in the back of the teardrop its hinged so when not in use the front part of the shelf can be folded up to give more seating area!
then fitted the rear half of the roof skin. nailed glued and clamped as per the front secton and held overnight with the ratched straps again.
while the glues drying i routered the roof flush with the sides and went off to collect some 2"x2" angle iron to make a simple A frame chassis over the weekend
jobs left to do to the body
make a door, hatch in the floor, air vents in the side panals, seal with thinned varnish and a few coats of paint. oh and weld n fit the chassis, should be done by next week fingers crossed!
