You are making a great looking teardrop, Drew. Be careful about opening the hatchlid while gassing up, it is like waving a red flag and it will take an hour to get back on the road due to all of the onlookers. However that ain't so bad, you get to meet lots of potential teardroppers that way. Keep up the good work. It sure looks like you are familiar with powertools and how to use them...............

Drew, Great trailer you are building, roof is something I might steal, you'll enjoy that galley, it will store it all.

Next year, come out to the redwoods.

John

Making frantic progress over the past 10 days or so. I am suffering from TIADD (Teardrop Induced Attention Deficit Disorder). There is so much to do. I spend 15 minutes on something and then get distracted by a bright shiny object and move to a totally unrelated item. But I am making steady progress.

Last night my Lovely Wife and fabulous son, ventured out to the shop (a trip they make very deliberately) and in unison said "what can we do to help?". This was great news... There is a bunch of sanding to be done. So after setting the random orbit and jitterbug sanders out for them, I gave them a very detailed primer on technique and all the excruciating detail. I bet they were sorry they volunteered. My Bride was sanding the oak plywood sides with 220 grit, so it would be ready to apply Spar this morning. I approached after about 15 minutes to see her with a very puzzled look on her face. As I turned to look at the Tear, in horror I saw that she had sanded through the veneer and into the Luan core (a spot the size of a silver dollar).

What a test.... So after I relaxed a little bit and took more than several deep breaths I dug into my woodworking bag of tricks to see if I had a solution to this interesting dilema. Easy fix... I am going to make a template using the same heart shape that I used when I carved the heart into the bumper and rout a dutchman out of cherry to cover the "opportunity". As I discussed this plan with my bride last night, the sheer relief that she had was interesting to watch. I can certainly understand why... When giving the thorough instructions before this task started. I said to my son "If you mess up I have we have to throw the trailer away and start over".

Maybe I am just a little tense given looming deadlines and now a bunch of work related travel that wasn't in the plan. Hah, a plan, what an interesting concept.

I will take some pics tonight and update the build blog with some progress, as well as the heart-shaped fix.

Drew, Go give your wife a high-five! She just made your tear just that more personal. Tell her that ain't the first time such a thing happen, several of the teardrops here have something special just like your story that creativity has hidden. Mine included.

Great to see she is there to help, bring her out more,

John

Drew,
Ha that reminds me of the time Bill was painting a car, we were giving to my daughter. He did an awesome job on it. I said "Honey Its dry already" he touched it w/ his thumb and of course it wasnt dry. Oops. Now everytime she walks by she sees her Daddys thumbprint and laughs  . Although it was my fault everyone teases him. We all say Its his seal of approvial.
Youll laugh about it later.
Marijo (and Bill) :applause:
Hope to see you on the road.

Postby drewbtaylor » Tue May 26, 2009 1:27 am

There hasn't been enought time lately to make as much progress as I would like and now it's "crunch time" before the maiden voayage. Even less time to keep up with the blog and the forum posts. Please take a minute to check out the latest Blog posting at the WWW link below but here is a tease.

The progress is all in the details now and we are so excited.

Well my goal has come and passed. I was hoping for 100 days build time and will miss it by about 14 days by the time I finally finish. I rolled it out into the sun and WOW it looks incredible and I can't wait to hook it up to the TV and roll out on the maiden voyage very soon. I have to order more of the copper screw caps. The windows have arrived and I am looking forward to the door handles arrive. The WWW link below is updated.

John, I sourced the elcroplated copper caps from http://www.pro-dec.com/. Fast shipping and great quality. They have a bazillion colors and several elcroplated finishes.

Thanks for the kind words.
