Petcool AC/Heat

Ive seen them for sale on ebay, and I was wondering if you had an inch of insulation all around is it strong enough, or is it worth it to just build in a spot for a 5000btu window unit into a cabinet?

deryk, they work just fine in a regularly sized TD...they are meant to cool a dog house with a volume of around 125-150 cuft....which is about what a std-td is...............

Off handed thought.................

I am in the teardrop 8 - 12 times a year. I am in my kitchen almost every day.
We use our little window shaker to cool just the kitchen and have been able to limit the use of the central air to just a few horribly hot days.

When we go camping in the hot summer months we slip it out of the window and tote it along if the weatherman is forcasting hot weather.

we love our petcool as it also provides heat, but we have a standard sized 5x8 silver shadow and the petcool struggles for us in 95* + when the trailer has some direct sunlight exposure.

Window a/c's are cheap. I camp enough so I would not want to be moving it out of the house and into the t/d just to save $100. And then back into the house when I return.

Also, not sure, but I'm going to start closing up the t/d tight when I use the pet cool. There is a thermostat bulb in the return line but think it gets confused by me leaving windows open. And, there is enough outside air drawn into the p/c so I'm not worried about oxy starvation... I think if your t/d is insulated, the p/c should handle 95 degrees. But, I think I remember someone had a problem with it icing up at high temps.. and maybe high humidity.

I used mine this summer in 95+ heat and I was cold! I think I may have kept one window open just a crack, but I really can't remember.

However, the unit never did shut off....ran continuously. I am going to insulate the hoses and see if that helps.

The p/c seems to be more concerned about outside air temp, so if it is 95 outside, it will run regardless of the icicles forming on your toes....

But, I'm going to try closing all the windows. There is no, or little suction on the return side. so closing all the window would force the air back through the return line and hopefully the thermostat bulb would react more to inside temps... I have not tested this out yet.
