Less than a year to completion, Woody Tear done

Postby davidrn » Tue Sep 01, 2009 4:57 pm

I have finished my Woody Tear and the wife and I made our first trip out mid July. Had a great time in Gloucester , Ma. We used a quick canopy over the whole setup, worked out well when it poured an inch or two on the third night. I think it is fairly water proof, but am nervous to try it out in a down pour. I haven't had the time, (alright, or the ability) to shrink my 1200 x 900 pictures, so I downloaded some to my verizon web page, sorry for the extra work if you make the trip to look. I am unhappy with the fenders, but working only 2 days a week, cost is an issue. I may build wood, or look for used metal. Unless someone has an inexpensive tip.
I look forward to camping with the New England TearJerkers soon. I haven't come up with a name yet, but I was thinking about attaching a "Special DeLuxe" plate from my old 1948 Plymouth, I never reattached them when I sold it. Thought it might give it a nostalgic look.

That too. If I had that much room I'd be thinking about a second build

planovet, thanks for converting that photo, I will learn this converting sometime soon, but the wife now wants me to build new Kitchen Cabinets. I thought she would understand, unimportant things would have to wait until I finished the Tear.
I would like to say thanks to the whole forum, I read an awful lot of the posts in the construction pages, and integrated quite a few ideas into how I built this Woody.
As to the shop, I planned that for 10 years, my wife told me, shut up already, just build it. So with the occasional help of my college aged boys I built a 24 x 40' pole barn, 24' high,, added the second floor the second year, and still have some work to complete. My goal is to have my woodshop done by 2013 when I retire.

David

Your teardrop looks great and as the director of the New England chapter of tearjerkers, I can safely say we'd love to have ya join us. I started my build just after Christmas and I too gave it the first trail run July 4th. We had a successful trip down to Cape Cod and I know the feeling about the rain so I also had the easy up over mine. I know it has to get wet some time but it's tougher than it looks to just let it happen. We'll have to get together and talk cabin car sometime, probably bore the wives to tears but we'll set them up with a glass of wine and a good campfire and all will be well. I'm down here in Acushnet Ma. and will be having a wrap up the season campout at my place in late Oct or early Nov. and your welcome to join us then if you can't make it to Tolland Oct. 2 - 4th. Look forward to hearing from you.
