I have bought headlamps for my house, minivan, motorcycle... like having two hands free... doubt I will ever get a regular flashlight again...

bought at walmart, kmart, etc.... around $15.00... but mine are led and do not have the battery pack in the back.. similar to this.

But, will it survive if you run over it with a car. Unintentionally of course :o :o  ;)

I've had several Petzls and highly recommend. I plain wore out the first one I had. One got ate by the dog. Another I think I plain lost. But very solidly made and well-designed.

I had a Princeton Tec light briefly. Sucked terrible. Don't get me started on their inferior lights!!

I use the 12 dollar Rayovac headlamps from wallyworld at work (airplane mechanic, when feeding and cleaning my outdoor pellet boiler, and for camping, I keep one in each car also (flat tires etc, at night) they give great light and are cheap enough that if I loose one or break it, it is no big deal. And my employer stocks the AAA batts for us. MY sister got me a nice one from LLBean it is great but the price is crazy ....
another use I found is X-C skiing at night, I have one with two red LEDs and they highlight the snow better than white
