Well, we are definitely talking a 10' standy on a Harbor Freight 5x8, stretched to 5x9'3".

So hang in here, maybe we can all build one together.

Mike, why the HF 5x8? (I didn't even know they made a 5x8). Why not built the frame from scratch? or mild steel?

Mike, Cliff's right!!!
That one needs a drop in the frame like Doug's Nomad. I think I have one or part of one in the tube. You still have that Flexiride? What weight rating is it? I didn't weld anything this year except for a canoe rack for the truck. I'm a little bored, we'll have to talk.

We could do custom frames for Puffin Supersports, but the design has to allow for a Puffin Supersport on a HF 5x8 Chassis, otherwise no one else will build one!

I understand the desire to design around a HF frame but I can't help myself

108"x78" plus the tongue
54" frame width at axle
30"x60" area has a 6" drop

Green is 2x2x11gauge
Blue is 2x2x1/8 angle
Red is 1/8 x 3 Hot roll strip

222 pounds as shown

CAD file available by request

Picture below is on an AT&T server. They must be having trouble, it's intermittent.

I like the Idea of a HF based due to the ability to remove one of the cross members to drop the floor. However that produces one problem - a step over at the front door

That chassis looks good Jim. Can you email it to me in step format? I still have the flexiride, but it's for a 54" wide chassis. Still, it's an option.

I also think I'd still like to come up with a Puffin Supersport with a galley. I think that's my task for this afternoon.

Scott, the step over isn't that bad. That's exactly what we have on the giant teardrop.

Dr. Crash. So you're the guinea pig, eh?

Carter, is there a link to your build? I can't seem to find it anymore, and it is one of my favorites!

I never had a build thread, built the trailer in 2002-2004 before this site existed. My album is still in the Hall of Fame about 1/3 the way down. It has some notes on each picture.

Like everyone else I would do some things different. The first is lighten it up. Mine is 1850 dry and could easily be 300-400 lighter. Not a big deal, it pulls great with a full size pickup and cost's me about 3mpg. Second is a full width/height galley similar to the one in the post above. The homebuilt trailer that got me interested in this stuff at age 13 had the same feature. Novel at the time. I would rake the back in the other direction so there was less chance of banging shins (I'm seldom careful enough to not hurt myself) I've got hot and cold running water in 2 sinks and a shower. Lots of plumbing to sanitize and flush and fill and maintain for what's a usually a 2-6 day trip. I would still have a shower pan built into the drop floor but use 5 gallon jugs and try a Coleman portable hot water heater for showers and dishes. Keep it simple. I've drawn up a number of ideas in CAD but haven't decided to build. I'm too close to retiring into a 5th wheeler.

Thanks for the nice words
Jim

Okay, just for fun, here is the Supersport, stretched out to an XL, with a galley out back.

Mike..

P.S. Jim, there's no plumbing in there, at least not yet!

Mike,
I'm getting back into playing mode also. Maybe it's the fall like weather. I'll make it a 54" wide frame before I send it. Any certain length or axle placement you want?

The picture of the frame above keeps disappearing. If I log into the FTP site it's there and I can view it but the link for viewing it from the web is intermittent.
