Hello from Mike & Cathy

Postby MIKE & CATHY » Tue Jun 15, 2010 2:39 pm

I've been reading the notes and comments posted here for a couple of weeks. Lot's of great and valuable information.
We have arranged to rent a teardrop trailer next month and will be taking off on my wife's first camping trip. We'll also be bringing our two dogs, Bradley the Keeshond and Coco the Chocolate Lab.
Our first trip will be to Clear Lake, Richardson Gove, & Duncans Mills.
If all goes well, we hope to buy a teardrop and do a lot of traveling around Northern California, and beyond.

Mike & Kathy

Welcome to the madness
Hope Kathy loves her first camping trip, you've picked a great area for her first time out.
Take lots of pic's, kinda keeps things running smoothly around here.

My last trip to the western Sierra was stepping off from Red's Meadow, into the Minerrets, came out at Devils Postpile.....many years back now,
but a TD into the area sounds great to me.

About to start much delayed trip

Postby MIKE & CATHY » Thu Oct 07, 2010 10:29 am

We had to cancel our teardrop rental and trip in July because Cathy fell from her bike and badly broke her right elbow, requiring surgery. She's better now and we are taking off this Saturday, Oct 9th.
Our route will be: Mountain View (home) > Auburn > Clear Lake > Richardson Grove (Garberville) > Duncans Mills (Russian River) > Auburn > Placerville > Mountain View. We'll be camping/gone for 8 days.
This is a "trial run". It will be Cathy and I and our two dogs. If all goes well, I hope to buy a teardrop and do a lot more camping. We are both retired now and don't want to just sit around home.

Hello, Mike & Cathy:

Sorry to hear about Cathy's fall but glad to hear she is better. When you make your trip, be sure to post pictures and a small log of your doings in the Trips, Pics, & Highway Tales section of this forum. We love da pics! :pictures:

Where will you put the two big dogs at night? Will they sleep in the car? I looked into renting a teardrop and they have a 'no dogs inside' rule and, anyway, it might be a bit crowded for the 4 of you.

Whatever you do, have a good trip! :vroom:

PS. Be sure to visit one of the gatherings where you can get lots of ideas on how people camp in their teardrops and meet some of the great people. Check out the Destinations site at the top of your screen and also the individual ones in the index.

Thanks Sharon for your comments.
We have a Toyota T100 pick up truck with a shell on the back. The dogs will sleep there.

Have fun on your trip. I am envious - I lived in the San Jose area for 21 years and miss the mountains. The flat lands of Florida are just not the same. We do, however, have the best beaches in the world.

The placerville area has some great campgrounds. We took the tear to wrights lake and wolf creek this last year. Had a nice teardrop gathering at wolf creek. there are quite a few campgrounds in that area.

Hello and welcome to the forum. Please take lots of Pictures of Clear Lake. I spent a little time in the area and have tried to describe it to my wife.

Well, we've been back from our trip for a week now, and it's time to share the pain. The trip was a disaster. I'll post the details on "Trips, Pics, & Highway Tales", and hopefully get some constructive comments from others.
