Need advice on A/C

I've made a template for my door window for a/c. Now, I need advice on what make of a/c to buy and the difference between infrared or radio remotes and which to buy. I plan on sitting it on a small table outside the door and running a hose to the template. I want to be able to turn it on or off from inside the TD.
I welcome any advice. You can see pics of my TD in my album.

With most IR remotes the device and remote need to see each other.
with RF (radio frequencey) the two don't have to see each other but need to be within RF distance of each other,
Used in a TD that should not be a problem.
As to what make and model?
I would get a light, quite, one

just put a male plug on the outside a light switch rated for the proper amperage inside, and a female plug on the outside to plug the AC into...

Granted we do not use ours much at all, but when we do....ours sits on one side of out tear and blows in the window....we route the power cord for the A/C under the tear and the end of the A/C cord has a GFI plug on it with a "test" and "reset" button on it. That plugs into an extension cord on the ground and lays within reach under the tear by the opposite door. When we want it off, we just open that door about 3 inches and hit the "test" button on the GFI plug. To turn it back on, we press the "reset" button.

It works great for us as a temp type of a setup as we only use it maybe once or twice a year.

With a remote one could lower the temp, raise the temp use fan only or turn it off or on.

I have an AC with remote they work very well and saves an old man many trips.

I would avoid Haier window units. I have one in my computer room and it's so loud I had to add amplified speakers to my computer. At least it's cool now.

Mine sets outside and I run it flat out if it gets too cold I open a window or crack a door. It's not my electric bill !

I have one of those Haier window units. I got it to supplement the roof air on my 5th wheel when needed. Like you mention it was loud when running so we only used it when it was hot enough that the noise was less annoying than the heat.

I ran across that unit in a storage box last summer and considered installing in in the wall of my tool crypt, mainly just to get it out of the way. When I took it apart to get all the pine needles and dead scorpions out I found the source of the noise. After a little work with a file on one of the internal brackets the only noise it makes is the sound of fan blowing cold air. Wish I had fixed it back when we actually need it......
