Yes there is a screen. I guess it would depend on the direction of the rain. It won't run the fan motor unless the dome is opened a certain amount.

Having that flexibility is definitely an asset in a teardrop. I can even use it as a way to move warm air from the ceiling to the floor level on a cold day (the roof lid stays closed).
