General Discussion about almost anything Teardrop or camping related

Postby Cliffmeister2000 » Tue Apr 26, 2011 6:54 pm

My job affects my travel plans more than the price of fuel. I work nights, with Tuesdays and Wednesdays off. My Beloved works days, with Saturdays and Sundays off.

We had planned a 4 day trip to the Mogollon Rim next week, but my Father in Law's health has caused us to re-evaluate our priorities and stay home.

Looking forward to better days, God willing!
God Bless

Cliff

So to recap.......................

The answer to "high" gas prices is to take only one way trips and only to the local Brewery?

 I like it!!!!!!!!! :applause:

Or put in "one-Way" street signs. The gas demand will probably decrease but then so with the population.

Howdy,

I am not going to alter my travel plans because of high gasoline prices and save gasoline for some other driver to run it through his gas guzzler. I'm in my winter of life; and my burial shroud isnt going to have pockets.

For years I drove Hondas to and from work and invested the gasoline savings in a 401K that the company matched. Then after retirement, I noticed that the stock that I had to buy in the 401K was not doing very well. I rolled a portion of the 401K into 250 shares of Chevron for 76.23 per share on Dec. 28,2009.

Last Friday, Chevron closed at $109.00 plus per share; and in June a $3.12 per share dividend will be paid to stock holders of record as of May 19, 2011. All I can say is if you cannot beat 'em; join 'em! This is my gasoline account until I pass.

Now every time the door bell rings I expect those pickup truck and suv drivers who razed me about my popsicle cars and how I had lace on my drawers for driving these to come offering to trade their dually or suv even up for my Ford Focus.

No thanks!

Take care,
Maury

Slow, I think you missed his point.

HE chose to drive a smaller vehicle and save his money. Then when the stocks his 401K had invested in went down, he switched his investment plan to get a better return on his investment.

Maury is not a rancher. In my opinion he was the smartest of the bunch. Instead of talking about how he can't make it in today's economy, he altered his goals and capitalized on what he saw as a good investment.

It could have went the other way, he could have invested in the pet rock V2.0

Hi Slow,

I enjoyed reading your reply!

The Minnesotan, Cars, got it partially right in that I made a choice. Why I made the choice had a lot more to with conserving a finite resource than it had to do with money! When I pass, I will not be judged as a poor steward with squandering the wealth of this country. This is where I am coming from!

We Americans wasted our natural resoureces by being weaned on cheap energy. Times have changed. We use over 25% of the world.s energy and make little effort to reduce the consumption. Couple this with the emerging third world countries ever increasing the demand, the devaluation of the dollar, and the diminishing oil reserves of this country; the cost of energy will spiral upward.

I can readily understand a business owner, a rancher, or a construction company using a pickup or what ever for the business. What I cannot understand is a 100 lb. woman commuting 60 miles roundtrip in a pickup truck to a $10 per hour job. Something is wrong and that is that energy is too cheap. A pickup truck is the family car of Texas!

Wait until the Arabs will accept payment for their oil in either Euros, Russian rubles, or Chinese Yuan or maybe even gold. Then $5.00 a gallon gasoline will look like a real deal.

Take care,
Maury
