First outing in my TT

Postby SteveF » Tue Jun 28, 2011 8:09 am

I took my first trip with my new trailer last week--it went pretty well. It was pretty cool at night and it rained a good bit on a couple of the days/nights I was there so I was glad to not be in my old tent. Not that I slept too well--rain on the fiberglass roof sounds like someone playing the high notes on a xylophone! Plink plink plink!

I stayed at Indigo Bluffs campground near Empire MI--a pretty nice campground. Lots of trees and and the folks that work there are very nice. It's near the Sleeping Bear Dunes and Traverse City, so there's lots of nice touristy stuff to do and civilization not far away when you get the urge. (caught a matinee at the Traverse City Multiplex one rainy afternoon which was a nice break.) I had a campsite at the east end of the campground which backs up against a horse farm. It felt pretty secluded and quiet back there!

I did quite a bit of cycling in the area (my main reason for the trip) and there are some good hills up there! My legs definitely felt it since it's pretty flat where I live.

Here's a couple of pics:

Congrats! Looks like you had a nice time. So the white hose I see in pic 2 is that for a water hookup?

Yep! I was glad to have it too--my remote campsite was a good distance from the facilities.

Thanks, Other Side--heading up north again in a couple of weeks to do some more cycling and sightseeing a bit further east of where I was last time...

Bonus pics--my quiet neighbors:

been there saw that.
I think the west side of michigan is one of the great places to camp I always get the year-round park pass and haven't been disapointed in any of their state parks.

sounds like you had fun anyway.

Yeah, it's one of my favorite areas. I think it's one of the prettiest areas of the State! I'm actually thinking about going back in August because

***ANNE WANTS TO TRY THE CAMPER OUT!!!!***

:woohoo:

I didn't think it would happen, but she told me last night she'd like to go and that's an area she likes as well. (tho we hotel'd it when we went a few years back. She hasn't camped since roughing it in field camp as an Archeology student in college (mumble) years ago...I'm pretty excited because I didn't think it would happen.

How fun when your partner wants to join you!
Maybe add just a dash of glamping to make it more fun for her (and romantic, too).
Better than paying $600+ a night at a glamping resort.

Thanks folks--it was definitely a surprise when she suggested it! It'll be interested to see how it goes...

Any hints to make a camping newbie happy would be welcome. I'm new to the travel trailer thing myself, obviously, and haven't tent camped much is quite a while so I'm rusty. ;)
