a few years back I worked out a deal with a dealership in Moble to by a T@B, went to get the money and they call and back out while I was returning, three days ago I was talking a guy about his 13ft casita, I sent a PM and told him I wanted it...he sold it....... :crying2:

Maybe the deals you had were just too good! Maybe they got offers for more money? What ever happened... sorry to hear.

That's why I always try to pay them with Paypal. I had a kayak sold out from under me while I was making the 2-1/2 hour trip to the guy's house.... cash in hand is a big motivator...

I had a friend who bought a guitar and paid through PayPal, drove three hours to pick up his prize to find out that someone with cash came by and bought it while he was on the way.

One does not guarantee another...

just goes to show you how far down the average citizen has fallen..50 years ago, you could have taken it home and brought back the money, but people nowdays just seem to be a**holes...just my opinion.

I sell on craigs lst all the time and I used to "hold" things for people until people stopped showing up and I turned other buyers away. The only way you can do it is the first person with the cash wins, otherwise you're the one getting shafted. I had a guy last month sat FOR SURE he wanted my washing machine but didn't have a way to pick it up. well, I never do this, but I felt generous so after multiple confirmations, I got it all unhooked and loaded in the back of my truck when he called back and told me that NOW he checked and he didn't have enough money. People like that guy mess it up for everyone else, because I won't do that again.

I always get scammers on Craig's list !!! Guys who want to send a cashiers check , and somebody will pick it up ... :roll:

Yeah right !!! Funny , they always start first with a simple e-mail that asks "Do you still have it ? " grrrrrrr!!!!

Money doesn't talk .... it Screams !!!

One thing I like about THIS forum is that when a member sells something more than likely you'll get it - I know who bought campers on THIS forum and went across the country to pick it up - I'm one of those people - I went to Kansas from Texas to pick up a camper just on a verbal commitment to the other party.

I agree about taking it home 50 years ago

I don't agree the "average citizen" has fallen, 99.9% of the people I meet are upstanding citizens and will go the extra mile for each other.

there is that .1% we hear about that makes the good guys look bad.

If I promise to sell someone something and a better offer comes bye I will keep my word to whom ever I gave it too.

I don't use craiglist have found most of it to me a scam, last time I look the was a tractor here in my town.. I email them and they want me to depot to there account, I say know I'll come get it and pay cash.... They went away. Pop up later same picture in a new city.... There no place to report a scam too.. Like eBay.... But this casita was on there own forum

Yes this forum is definitely a trusted source. I use CL all the time, bought my truck and my Monte Carlo and a few others, and sold a few cars and trucks on there too. You just have to set rules for yourself to protect yourself and it works great.

Thomas, I'm glad you have good luck with Craigslist. When I first tried to sell my Teardrop I put it on CL. What an eye opener that was! The first guy who called me said, "I know this might sound strange (first eyebrow raised) but I would like to 'rent' your Teardrop for the weekend to take my 3 (three!) boys camping in Key West (8 hours from me!) and to see if this is what I want to buy". Ok, I might be blonde, but I'm not stupid!! Told him sorry, not in the rental business.

Second, third and fourth email was from the same person/persons trying desperately to "take it off my hands" at a drastically reduced price that would "seem fair to both parties". Fair to both parties?? I replied back, "thanks for the good laugh but NO THANK YOU". They should rename it "NUTSLIST".

I finally put it on Ebay and sold it. Will never put anything on Craigslist again.

sorry for hi-jacking your thread, papa smurf.

i have been buying and selling cars, motorcycles, a boat, a travel trailer, and a bunch of other odds and ends on craigslist for years without any problems. here are a few rules i have set up for myself that eliminate problems:

1) when listing my phone number, i spell out the area code and i use capital Os instead of zeros (i have two in my number). this eliminates the automated telemarketers from getting my number.

2) i do not respond to generic emails that ask something like, "do you still have the item for sale?" i can usually spot these emails before i open them because they have peculiar sender names like Cornelius Lancaster or Matilda Speckle.

3) i never hold anything for anyone. first with cash gets it. and i only deal in cash. i don't even take cashiers checks from banks.

i have never bought or sold anything on ebay because i like dealing locally, but i am tempted to try it.

Hi Becca, Yes on Craigslist you sometimes get freaks, with that site, you just have to kind of accept it and blow them off. I've had some crazies too LOL

eBay is fine if you want to get a broader audience for an item that might bring more money if sold nationwide which will offset the fees.

Nigerian scammers are irritating. they always offer to pay with cashiers check and add 50 bucks to the asking price, well, no one legit ever offers more than the asking price at least not in my dealings..You can spot them right away, the emails are almost always in broken english..CL is free and you can put your add in more than one city if you want national exposure..Cash is king,and that is all I accept..fleabay is a joke. JMHO..
