Hey!!! who'z going camping for Labor Day?

General Discussion about almost anything Teardrop or camping related

Not a whole lot cooler around here. It was 105 degrees here at my place yesterday. Maybe it will be a little cooler down on the White. Hopefully, the fishing will be good at the river.

Still hot here but Williams AZ is nice and cool

Postby mkitchen » Fri Sep 02, 2011 1:29 pm

Mo is already up in the pines by Williams and is very comfortable with the three stooges (our Corgies). Williams is at 7,000 feet and cooler and I will be heading up there this afternoon. We have a very nice spot that is in the forest but not in a campground, so no crowds. We are lucky in that we can camp all year round here. We either go to the lower elevations in the winter and the higher elevations in the summer. We are never too far from comfortable camping.

Watching the Burner parade

Postby nevadatear » Fri Sep 02, 2011 9:56 pm

For the first time in 8 years we will not be camping on labor day. :( Had planned to up until Wednesday when the couple we were gonna camp with had to back out due to some minor surgery. Turns out to be a good thing as I got a killer sinus headache today. But will miss watching the parade of exiting burners )'( as we traveled back from California to home in Lovelock NV. ID'ing burners is easy. It is about every 2nd to 3rd car, totally covered in beige playa dust with at least one bicycle and a boatload of PVC pipe! (that's Burning Man to the unfamiliar)

Here in NorCal, it was an awesome season! I didn't even run any air this summer!

Heading out tomorrow to a local USFS campground with the Nomad and the Rocketear owners (Penny and Rich), only 35 miles from home...Big trees, lake and maybe a bear or 2. 4 days of camping/cooking/ goofing off at 5K feet....hope you all have a great Labor Day weekend. We will toast all you other campers this weekend and hope you have a great/safe one. Doug

It has been brutal this summer but it is supposed to get normal this weekend. I plan to cook a lot this weekend, and do a backyard campout with psycho poodle, to se how handles camping for the night. I think he will like it.

We have a SouthCentral gathering next weekend, and if psycho poodle does okay this weekend, and the temperatures are reasonable, it will be his first gathering. If it is too hot, he will have to wait for LCG for his first gathering -- god help him. It could be his first campout and his first time to get drunk. Anything can happen there.

Hey, it is rain, so it is both. Blessing and a curse. You have had the same kind of summer we have. So, you go from no rain to too much rain. Yep, that's life in the deep South.

Oh, and it now has a name, Lee.

And it is way tooo hotttttt here.... :sweaty: :sweaty:

+1 on too crowded and too hot.

(But the South Central section has an outing planned for the following weekend. Here's hoping for cooler weather.)

The forecast for most of next week looks good. We are all hoping it holds out for the weekend. But the diehard SCT members will tough it out, come hell or high water -- or high heat.

Too hot here too but a cool down expected (and with rain which we need). We still have the backyard set up so we'll probably do the "yamping (yard camping)" thing again and some outdoor cooking and use the firepit for more s'mores.

I don't know about the "last" hoorah, of summer... down here next weekend is the "First" hoorah" at the end of summer!

It's all relative though, we can camp deep into January and be quite pleasant! I would love to visit the Pacific NW sometime.

So no holiday camping this weekend, just working on stuff and getting prepped for next weekend!

So much for camping this weekend. Had to evacuate due to forest fire. One of those things that makes camping interesting.

I went camping last year on Labor Day, didn't have a reservation at a local campround, only 20 milles from home. They sent me out to the south 40 to dry camp, no trees and parked on a huge gravel lot. Late in the day, I gave up and left for home, but first drove through the huge campground, only to find dozens of empty sites. I inquired at the gate house, why others couldn't use the sites now vacant. No way, they said, once they are sold, they are reserved, weather they show up or not. I stayed home this weekend, gotta finish the 3x3 wheel-less TD.

It was a great camping weekend....fantastic weather, still cool nights, some owls hooting, plenty of great eats and company. There was a bear only on 1 night, but the guys that had the experience, had junk laying all around their site. Crowded....not any more than any other weekend that is sold out in a USFS facility...only can fit in so many people in the campground anyway. What was nice for me....only 55miles round trip and it is great Sierra type camping. Lots of big granite rocks, trees, views and a lake. 1 more planned trip this fall....

Hope you all had a great Labor Day weekend! Doug
