Us too. A total of four years spent on several small sailboats. The smallest was only 24 feet and we lived on that one for a year. If something wasn't absolutely essential or if it couldn't serve more than one purpose then it couldn't be on board!!! We didn't buy anything unless we knew exactly what we needed it for and exactly where we were going to put it. After 10 years back on land I look around me and wonder what the heck I am doing with all this STUFF.

We did however have a small land based storage room for personal heirlooms, tools, seasonal clothes (we were still working) and such. If we hadn't been working we would have done away with all that as well and sent the heirlooms to the kids.

#5 not such a good idea unless you sanitized those rags once in a while.

Cross contamination is a bad thing mkay.

Nuking the rags/sponges in microwave or soaking in a sodium hypochlorite (bleach water) solution would be the best bet.

The thing with the bleach water, you can wipe down your mess area with it then let rags/sponges set in the bucket for a few minutes.

Not a gremaphobe but I did work 20 years in factory food production.

No, not misdirected. I was just saying it's the same thing, small trailer, small boat, small whatever, same principles apply. You have to simplify and get down to basics.

How did we not kill each other....well, mostly it's because we really like each other. But isn't that like asking how people camp in teardrops and not kill each other? That teardrop isn't the whole story. The whole outdoors is your living environment. We were living in a marina resort, in San Diego, in almost constant perfect weather in one of the most beautiful areas in the country. Our boat was small, but our world was HUGE. We had total access to all the land AND the water had to offer. Who can complain about that!!

Becky,

Always thought that living on a sail boat would be a rewarding experience. A friend of mine had two. He and his lady would use all accumulated vacation time and skip out on one of the two boats. Some awesome stories he told. Also some bad (like crossing busy shipping lanes, dead tired, at night, no radar).

I know it would never be for me (scared of drowning, or hypothermia, or being shark snacks), but I bet it's a hoot basically having the liquid part of our world as your oyster. Even on a small boat like yours.

I don't want to live full time I just want to spend the winter months in warm climates
Becky now I understand the "oldragbaggers" part.
We use to sail a 30 foot non'such on the great lakes lots of room but if you take something out put it back when done.
I also owned a small 12 foot trailer boat that had a cuddy cabin
I always wanted a west wight potter after reading Larry Brown's book about his experiences with the 10 or 12 footer he had.
I got my bare boat charter certificate in falmouth foreside Maine back in 1986.
