One door?

We just got our teardrop and we never considered anything but two doors. I would get or have two doors as the cost will be minimal in the over all picture. It is easier to make the bed and we have had experience with slide out rv beds...yuck. Someone always having to crawl over someone else, not fun. If you consider resale it is a better option to have also. If someone was trying to get ya from one side you can run out the other way, something for a woman to consider. Boy! Some opinions are brutal, aren't they? Get what you want and be happy.

Also, we bought our teardrop from a guy that builds them in Texas. It was not cheap but it didn't put us in the poor house either. I knew your comment "Just to clarify, I was only joking about having to take money out of our retirement fund to buy doors" was true. If it was that bad you probably would not be doing this at all. We been accused of keeping the economy afloat for buying a teardrop....Oh Please! Like I said, our's is quite new but I think we will keep it as long as we have our sense about us.

The bad thing about two doors is when you are loading stuff during a beastly rain event, you have rain going in through two doors.

Becky, we LOVE it. Going camping again on Thanksgiving. It will be a little more intimate than LCG was, just the two of us. Can't wait to get out there again. Well not too intimate, two Yorkies going too.

Our tear has one door and that's enough for us. It has a large window on the left side, which swings out for emergency escape. It makes the build a lot simpler. As for getting up to pee at night, I sleep next to the door, so I can go without bothering my wife. If she has to go, I'm getting up to go with her. I won't let her walk to campground toilets alone in the middle of the night.

The Bean is equipped with only one door and it is not in the typical position on the side. It is in the front of the trailer. When I got the Bean it it had long flaps on each side of the trailer, kind of like a roach coach that were held up by a chain and hook. Inside were screens about 2 feet x 6 feet. Not practical as the flaps when open were at a dangerous eye level. I welded the flaps shut and have windows waiting to be installed, one for each side. If I can't get out the door in an emergency I will go out one of the windows.

I owned a travel trailer that had a bed stuck in one corner making it was not fun.
building a couple of doors would not be that hard if you can build a TD you can build a door.
Or build, buy one door try it and see if you miss the other door another one can always be added.
plan ahead add reinforcing where needed as you build.
I would opt for two doors just for the reasons you said having a side tent a place to dress and potty would be nice

Our first Mega-Mini #1 had one door and an emergency exit roof top hatch and should have had an exit window and did not. It also had the three doors typical of a Grasshopper design in the galley area, MM #2 through #7 all had two doors and a single Galley hatch at our suggestion. We felt strongly enough that two doors and the galley were important enough that we traded #1 in on #7.
We have tarps that can be on both sides of the tear and there are some camp sites that are so narrow or have limited access on one side. One of the side tarps will incorporate a shower/potty tent eventually.

Pete has a good idea. Frame inside the walls for two doors. That way, if you or the next owner decides on two doors, the second can be added later without much effort. The extra framing won't be difficult to do; won't cost much; and won't add much weight, especially if the window you want uses part of the same frame work.

I have decided to go with 2 factory doors. I know they won't be installed until later on down the line, but I need one now to use as a template to cut my walls. I am on the "pay as you build" plan, so I am going to buy one now and then get the second one later when it is time to install them. It will be a little less painful that way.

The other thing that has me leaning toward the 2nd door is being able to have a cabana room set up all the time outside one door and still be able to have the other door accessible without having to go through that cabana room. If someone wants to peek in the teardrop I wouldn't want them having to go through my potty/dressing room to do it.

This is exactly why our tear wil have two doors. I want one for a dressing room/bathroom/shower enclosure and one for easy access.

Sorry to steal this thread, but I would love to know where you got those tarps and poles.

And just so I don't feel too guilty for stealing the thread, I am going with one door and a big window on the other side for when it is so windy that the tear blows over on the door and we have to escape, or for when that grizzly is coming in through the door for the peanut butter sandwich under my pillow.
