There were two old boys from Florida who love to fish, and they wanted to do some ice fishing. They'd heard about it up in Canada, and they took off up there. The lake was frozen nicely.

They stopped just before they got to the lake at a little bait shop and got all their tackle. One of them said, "We're going to need an ice pick."

So they got that, and they took off. In about two hours, one of them was back at the shop and said, "We're going to need another dozen ice picks."

Well, the fellow in the shop wanted to ask some questions, but he didn't. He sold him the picks, and the old boy left. In about an hour, he was back. Said, "We're going to need all the ice picks you've got."

The bait man couldn't stand it any longer. "By the way," he asked, "how are you fellows doing?"

"Not very well at all," he said. "We don't even have the boat in the water yet."

2 O'l boys from down south heard the same about Ice Fishing.

They loaded up there gear, Headed North and went to the edge of a frozen lake and cast there lures out over the Ice about 30-40 yards then reeled them back in.

This went on for an hour or so when the one guy asked the other if he had gotten anything. "Not even a nibble" replied the second.

At that moment a Snowmobile whizzed across the lake. To which the first guy said,

"I wonder how there doing Trolling"?

Head to Vegas day after Christmas for some "camping," actually just taking the trailer for lodging for my next thumb surgery. Sure hope this one does the trick. Chronic nerve pain in quite the "pain." ! Who knows, may stay for the vegas get together over new years.

Geez, what are we doing this winter?

Postby mkitchen » Thu Nov 17, 2011 11:08 am

Well next week we will be doing some back country camping in Death Valley NP. Then it is off to the Buckskin state park for a TD get together on the first weekend of December. I also have plans to do some back country camping again in the Kofa Refuge and we will be meeting up with some friends at Anza Borrega State Park in February. Shortly after that there is the Spring Clean just east of Mesa AZ and if time allows, we were thinking of attending the TD event at Perris Lake CA.

After that we need to sit down and plan out the goals for spring and summer. We fully plan on getting away as often as we can with either the tear drop or our off road trailer.

It's camping season year round down here, if you can stand the rain, lightning, heat, reptiles, deer flies, gnats, no-see-ums and mosquitoes.

Where you live, Doug, if you don't like the snow, you can drive down into the valley and camp in the rain!

Dang, Girl! I think I hear the echo of my sister's statements....She lives in Maine.

Some people may be leaving California but I still love it. Of course, there is no perfect place. Each area has its own good and bad points.

Winter is kind of a necessary problem because we all need some rain/snow to fill those rivers, lakes, and reservoirs and to keep the grass and trees green. Oh! And, wouldn't we miss the beauty of the snowy mountain tops? (I think I must be having a good day because I'm making myself a little sick. HaHa!) :snow :snowstorm: :rainy:

For me, my biggest gripe is the shorter days, which happen everywhere. I look forward to December 22 because I know that once I reach that, the daylight hours will start to increase. Then, can spring be far behind?!

Doug,

A guy I work with took his trailer hunting last week up to Hot Sulpher Springs. He was pulling it up a snowy hill and the truck came to stop, with all 4 wheels spinning and slowly went backwards down the road.

He stopped 5' shy of the big drop off at the side of the road, jack-knifed across both lanes. Two hours later and $300 poorer from the tow he was on his way.

I think I'll wait till spring for the next mountain camping trip. Chatfield is about 5 miles from our house and it's flat the whole way there so we might sneak one more trip in before the end of the year. We took the TD there for one snowy weekend so I'll have to try the Boxcar too.

P.S. Backing up the driveway was a real challenge in the snow, I slid all over even with a 7,000# truck and 4 wheel drive.

Planning on attending the Buckskin event, in a couple of weeks. Then, I usually drive the 20 minutes to Lake Skinner, where they have 3 campgrounds. One is for those that can only affort a 50 dollar tent and a case of beer, the second one has elect and water, and the third is all set up for the big boys in their huge 5th wheels and "motorcoachs". I head for the second one, where there are always a bunch of friends that I haven't met yet.

Often teardrop-envy erupts and I have to stop due to folks standing in the road, ready to talk to me, and for some reason want a show-and-tell about the little woody. That is how I decide who I will camp next to. Hmmm, strangely I am often invited to come over for supper and share their nightly campfire. That is what camping is all about. I have yet to encounter a less-than-friendly camping enthusiast, and have found that their BBQ steak tastes better than my hot dog and beans.
8) Roly, born where it snows, but love all-year camping now, here in So Calif. ~~

Roly, where is Lake Skinner? Is that 20 minutes from Buckskin or 20 minutes from your house? ;) See you at Buckskin.
