Help, Please: Burning Man Blog Link Needed

Postby JuneBug » Sun Dec 04, 2011 12:06 pm

Hi all,
I'm trying to find a thread that had a link to a Burning Man blog and I think I linked to it from a T&TTT thread, but now I can't find it.
This blog had interesting pictures:
one was of a pyramidal tipi structure with about an 8' x 8' base. The pyramidal tipi was made of foil-faced rigid insulation.
The other photos were of a little yellow bicycle "car" with a shade over the roof.
There were also some photos of amazing giant sculpture/art things that made me realize that astounding creative stuff is part of the heart of Burning Man. I had assumed the essence of Burning Man was on people running amok in the desert; I just didn't realize they were running amok in such a fabulously creative way.
Anyway, if you could direct me to the link to the blog or the thread, much appreciated.

Well, I got into searching on the interwebs and came up with all sorts of amazing stuff, as well as several web sites and blogs which evenually brought me to the Web page I was searching for, as well as to the amazing re-model of the tinest kitchen I've ever seen.

So first, Paul Elkins, tireless sketcher/inventer/builder since childhood, has a blog here: http://highmileagetrikes.blogspot.com/
Scroll down to Tuesday, September 27, 2011 for a view of the pyramidal tipi made from sheets of Thermax HD rigid insulation, next to the wonderfully whimsical pedal car (quadricycle). Keep scrolling for more pics of the inside of the pyramid tipi and also pictures of an octa-tipi.
Then onto the amazing works of art -- the immense scale of some of these epemeral installations is amazing.

Keep on scollin' down to different blog posts for some amazing stuff, including a video on the pyra-tipi and details on building the quadricycle.

You can see Paul's Cadillac of homeless shelters here

Which leads to the Hexayurt: http://hexayurt.com/
There is a video on this web site of the burning man hexayurt being taken down and another vid on how to make a hexayurt.

And on to a tiny kitchen remodel, pulled off by a young American couple in a 480 square ft apartment in Germany. http://www.makingthishome.com/our-kitchen/

Enjoy.

Hi Junebug! I started a thread on the Southwest forum about burningman so hope this is the one you're thinking of.

I'm so glad that someone realized the heart of burningman: people running amok in creative and amazing ways!

I've been 8 years and enjoyed every one of them (well, except for maybe not 2008 so much...)
A truly happy person is one who can enjoy the scenery on a detour!

I was looking specifically for Paul Elkins' blog on Burning Man. His structures made from rigid insulation panels are so amazing it made me want to build a pyramid. I wish he had included a plan/cutting diagram in his blog.

Also the sheer size and beauty of some of the sculptures is astounding. I'll never go to a Burning Man (I don't "do" crowds), but am so grateful that people go and report back on the amazing things they have done and seen. Thank you!
