19th Dam Gathering of the Tears, May 3-6, 2012

Postby grant whipp » Tue Dec 06, 2011 1:16 pm

I've already posted this in the Northwest, Jefferson State, and Southwest sections of this Forum, but I thought I'd go ahead and post it here, too, in case folks from other parts of the country think they might make it out ... and for general discussion about it, as well:

If you haven't already, it's time to start thinking about this year's Dam Gathering of the Tears! This will be our 19th edition, and our good times with Teardrops and Teardroppers just keep rollin' along!

Looking forward to seeing all our old friends and making many more new ones ... and always, always, always sharing & having a Dam Good Time ... ...!

And, if you are into planning (or need to plan) far ahead (vacation time, funds, etc.), put the same weekend and same location on your calendar for 2013 and the 20th edition! It's gonna be a blowout celebration of 20 Great Years of livin' the lifestyle, loving' teardrop (and other tiny) trailers, gathering in the woods, seeing old friends & making new ones, and simply hanging out with the greatest people in the world!

See you there!

CHEERS!

Can't wait to get into this trailer world.
We have been Rod Run camping with our various Street Rods and tent since 1975.
But now it is time to move up off of the ground and meet some new friends and tryy something new.
We still plan to pull our version of a teardrop behind a Studebaker, but getting there has always been most of the fun for us.
This event looks like fun but is a bit early for us. As we hope to debut our new car and trailer at a Rod Run a little later in May.
But who knows???

Slow, When we drive down from Idaho there are miles after miles where seeing another car is a most welcome sight. One stretch of our route cars are about 30 minutes apart. Traffic is not a problem. Don't know the route you might take be we take 395 south to Lakeview, OR then west to Klamath Falls and south on 97 to Weed, CA. Interstate 5 then takes us right to the campground. No big cities, no traffic problem. Don't know what part of Wyoming you travel but nothing on our route is any busier than Interstate 80 across Wyoming and were only on Int 5 about 60 miles.

Hey, Slow!

Lake Shasta starts about 75 miles south of the Oregon border on I-5 (practically dead center of the state, East-to-West), and that's where Lakehead and Antlers Campgrounds are.

any chance of avoiding heavy traffic to get to it?

Absolutely! We are far, far away from any major metropolitan area with traffic problems! Depending on how you plan to get here, though, you may encounter some along the way, but nothing like L.A. or San Francisco (or even Sacramento)!

If it were me and I was in a hurry, I'd catch I-80 West to Reno/Sparks, NV, then head north on Hwy 395 towards Susanville, CA (just east of S'ville, Hwy 395 turns into Hwy 36), take Hwy 36 west about 5 miles then turn north-northwest on Hwy 44 to the junction with Hwy 89, turn north and follow it all the way to I-5 at Mount Shasta, then south about 35 miles to the Lakehead/Antlers Rd. exit.

Obviously, there are alternate routes that avoid freeways altogether and the congestion you'd find 'round Slat Lake City and Reno/Sparks, but I've never found either of those cities to be very difficult to get through (and, I've traveled that route a lot! ... :? ...).

... and wyoming does not drive in them conditions hardly at all in there life times.

Hey ... I've experienced the snarling traffic situations you have there in WY! I-80 turns into one massive parking lot in blizzard conditions, and those pesky herds of antelope & elk can tie up traffic for what, minutes? ... ... unless you hit one, that is (I've nailed two antelope and one elk!). I worked the oilfields in WY, UT, & Northwest-CO from '79 to '82, based out of Vernal, UT, so I'm very familiar with how you guys drive out there ... ;) ...

Hope you can make it, Man ... would be good to put a face to the name, ya know! As always, then ...

CHEERS!

We are planning on it as well. And Slow, we live on I 80 and have done the trip through Wyoming to home in Lovelock, and from Lovelock up to Redding/Lake Shasta. Yes it is a highway, and no I would never call it traffic. Maybe through Salt Lake, but not even through Reno, unless there is road construction, and most of that was finished up last summer. And I live in a town of less than 2000, so I know about small. Driving across Nevada on I 80 is just like driving across Wyoming. We spent a LONNNNg day/night in greenriver on time, with two 3 year olds broken down waiting for a junkyard to open up for a tire for our trailer.

wow! This is starting to sound like quite the gathering!!!

Slow...you've got to make it!!! You won't be anywhere near any of our big cities so no traffic issues!!

A Sunhopper and a Grasshopper...good deal! Hopefully there will be some more Hoppers coming out of the woodwork for this one!!

Can't wait to see all the variations on teardrop design!! I'm guessing I'll have one of the few factory made ones, but that's ok by me!!
