Saw a teardrop on CA hwy 1 today...

Postby DragonFire » Fri Dec 09, 2011 11:30 pm

I was headed to Carmel CA this afternoon when we passed a white tear with red fenders headed south on hwy 1 in Seaside CA..was it anyone here? TV was a small truck with front end damage. The tear looked great!

I would settle for seeing ANYTHING on CA-1 because that would mean I was ON CA-1.

It was a nice looking tear..was a bit surprised to see the front of the truck so messed up, but maybe they are on a trip and were just in that accident.

I wish I could have gotten a picture but we passed it going a bit fast....

Isn't most of the PCH speed limit 25 to 45? If they were both going 45.... they passed at 90

Come to think of it around Carmel, PCH is pretty open, not too windy.

I had the wonderful experience of driving from Santa Barbara to Cresent City on Hwy 1 back in May. Wow, I was never so tired of switch-backs, but that sure was some beautiful scenery

But Verna, HWY 1 ends at Leggett, CA. That's where you most likely got onto the 101 and continued on to Crescent City. I bet you didn't even wave at Dean & Jonnie as you went through Eureka. ;)

Gage, I wish I had known about this group back in May!!!! I spent over a week traveling in beautiful CA. I know at times I was on Hwy 1, then on 101, and even I-5 at one time. Hey, I just kept heading north!!!! I spent a lot of time watching the waves in the Pacific. Gorgeous sight!!!

I finally took 199 over to I-5 and headed up thru Oregon and then spent 3 days in Seattle.

It was a wonderful trip and I would definitely take it again.....but I would start in June, not in mid-May since it was just a bit cool for me.

Oh yeah, it definitely was my last tent camping trip--thank goodness for the space heater.

We were in Seaside..north of Monterey..road is still basically a freeway. I have no idea what the speed limit was.. I wasn't driving but I know we were doing 80-85.

So we are headed back in a bit and want to head up 5 from Santa Nella..sounds like the fastest on a Sunday. Gotta check the iPhone map for that...

Actually Highway 1 continues to just below San Luis Obisbo where in merges with Highway 101 and then it separates and re-merges several times all the way down to at least Laguna Niguel....

Posted speed should have been 65MPH ( on 4 lane section) ... 55MPH for towing...

Lived in that area for almost 50 years...

Yeah, I figured it would be 65....I think we are headed back up 5 which should be 70. At 80mph we were passing trailers but moving with everyone else....

"5" is bizarre.... I have been towing on "5" and doing 65 (10 miles over "towing" limit) and been passed by big pickups towing huge travel/toybox trailers....
