Gamo, Beeman, and Benjamin are nice but a bit pricey. You can get a Crossman at Wally world, and it'll do the trick.

No problem. Fox, raccoon, possum...

Need a pellet traveling a min. 950 FPS for .177 cal, 750 FPS for .22 cal.

A friend of mine recommends this one. He has several air rifles and this is a good one.

Gamo Big Cat .22 caliber air rifle Amazon has it for 129.00.

Here is maybe more info then you want, but good reading.

Have a Gamo Big Cat in .177 pretty deadly if I can actually hit something.....

Took out a wild turkey with head shot at about 60 yards ....

Have see a video of really big high powered air rifles bring down a wild pig, but it was something like a .45 caliber air rifle...

Subsonic .22 Ammunition

Postby Engineer Guy » Fri Dec 30, 2011 10:55 am

If you're game on expanding the OP Question to 'taking out a Fox', rather than limiting the proposed solution to an Air Rifle, I'd suggest another route. I'm not sure a .177 Pellet will do the Job expeditiously. I've popped Suburban Squirrels and Feral Cats with .177 Air Rifle Pellets, and it's quick.

A know-it-all Pal shoots Subsonic .22 Ammo in a nice Rifle in his Suburban Neighborhood to dispatch nuisance Wildlife. Plenty of power, and no noise. For reference: the speed of Sound is 1,126 FPS in dry, 68 F Air at Sea Level.

Humane is good, too...

For a really accurate and EFFECTIVE pellet try a Crow Magnum in the 8.x grain size. A hollow point that goes straight, go figure...

Years of experience with those...

That's what my dad uses for the racoons that get his birds (chickens pheasants, chukars, quail). He keeps track of how many he's bagged, I was surprised because it's in the triple digits.

I'll have to look what my son has.. I think is a Gamo something or another. VERY strong air rifle. Honestly though a .22 with some subsonic round or some .22 shorts makes the same amount of sound if not less. Will also do more damage. Not to mention is cheaper lol.. I paid more for his air rifle then I did for a couple of our .22 rimfire rifles..

Heck go buy a cricket .22 and a box of .22 shorts. Cost you about 125 bucks and will dispatch your critters easily and quietly..

I'm using .177 to keep velocity and accuracy up and to get better initial penetration. Hollow points "grow up" pretty big...
