General Discussion about almost anything Teardrop or camping related

Postby DragonFire » Thu Dec 15, 2011 12:54 am

I'm hoping Slow can make it for this one as well. I've met cowboys before..but Slow sounds like a really interesting fellow..wind turbines to power teardrops..an interest in Coleman items..he ice fishes...all those things we get too busy to mess with in the big city.

Looking forward to him seeing CA for the first time. I bet he thinks it all looks like LA around here!

Looking forward to meeting everyone..and seeing everyone's trailers. Always so much to see and learn. And you will probably get to see a show if I have to back my trailer up for the very first time in front of you all!!

Now Grant, since I will not be hauling a "towed teardrop", (As my 3 footer is suspended off of my hitch reciever and has no wheels), I suppose my camping fee will be only 1/2 of what I would have to pay for both the car and a towed TD. Then there is a matter of an additional price reduction because of my Senior Discount, Ex-military, Ex boyscout leader, Ex Postal mail carrier, Retired peace officer, and only a few months from being an Octogenarian...........Hmmm, as a matter of fact, it might turn out that you might owe me some money when I arrive. :-)

Hey, Roly!

You should know, my Friend, that we have a very special spot at the campgrounds (and in our hearts) for a very special man and his very special
woody, a painted shorty and a 3 foot expandable, tip-out, slide-out and flip-up monstrosity
... :applause:  ...!

As for your multiple "discounts" and the possibility of me owing you money when you get here, well ... ...

Bottom line, I wouldn't miss this event, no matter what. Lets see, 1000 miles each way, at 40 mpg. that's 50 gallons at about $3.50 a gallon, which comes to only about 175 bucks, wow, what a bargain. Again, can't wait to see old friends and hopefully Slowcowboy, at last.

Thanks for the good words about the Dam Gathering! I, too, am looking forward to seeing all my old friends and making many, many new ones ... and, it will be a real treat if Slow can make it out ... ...!

Safe travels, my Friends! And, have a Happy Holiday Season! As always ...

I saw all kinds of stuff on DO extravaganza, Chili cookoff, Next Cast Iron Chef...Since I'm new, keep me informed on what I need to do to pull my own weight at the gathering ...

Hi, DF!

Nobody has any "weight" to pull at the Dam Gatherings (except for the Committee) unless you want to ... ;) ...! Your only obligation is to come up, hang out, meet all the fabulous people, check out all the fabulous trailers, and have yourself a Dam Good Time! Now, if you choose to, you can contribute to the mulligan-brew Chili pot and Potluck on Saturday night, and if you are a Dutch Oven aficionado (or wannabe), we have the Friday night DO Sampler (where you bring your favorite or newest DO creation and share it with the group) and/or the now nearly-famous Next Cast Iron Chef! competition (with an award for the Campers' Favorite DO Dish and a prize and the title for the N.C.I.C.). Saturday night's Dutch Raffle has a veritable mountain of goodies donated by local merchants as well as the campers, themselves, and raffle "tickets" are included in the Registration packet, can be bought, and/or "earned" by participating in the DO Sampler or other activities.

Of course, there are lots of sights to see around the area, antique shops, yard sales, and the Shasta Damboree celebration usually happens on the same weekend in the City of Shasta Lake, some 17 miles south of the campgrounds ... so, you'll have no problem filling your "dance card" of things to do ... :D ...!

Looking forward to meeting you and seeing Jerry & Norma's old Grasshopper ... maybe they'll even show up with their "new & rebuilt" model, and we can have a mini-reunion of 'Hoppers ... ...!

And, oh, BTW ... watching the newbies back in for the first time is always a "show", but it's rarely a spectacle that draws a crowd ... we usually watch from a discreet (and safe) distance, but are always close enough to lend a helping hand if needed ... :R ...!

As always, then ...

I just wanted to give this thread a bump because I think it is important to support Grant and all who make this event possible.

Thanks for the bump, Kirk...I just registered today and got a couple of shirts..

Yeah, this will be my first time backing. I've heard the small trailers are harder than medium ones. It may take me 20 or more tires, but I'll get that Grasshopper in it's place if I have to get out and push it in myself!

Grant: have you contacted Jerry about the Dam? He said he might go...he probably needs a little kick to get him to totally finish up that Grasshopper he salvaged. It wasn't complete when I saw it, but close enough to let go of the 'spare'...

I sure hope they can make it. I just love that guy. Never met Norma, but talked to her on the phone. Jerry is something else.

I'm in for the DO potluck thing...but what about the chili? How does that work? Contribute ingredients or what? I'd love to help on that, too. Now as far as being a 'cast iron chef...' not so sure about that. There are some pretty good CI cooks out there!!

I'm just looking forward to the whole thing. It will kick off my social calendar with the Grasshopper...which is getting mighty full for the year!!

Nope ... not yet ... kind of wanted to get the holidays over with ... ;)

The Saturday Night Chili Pot is simply a mulligan brew of all kinds of chili (freshly prepared or canned ... and please, no hot stuff) all thrown into one big pot and stirred over an open fire. Not everyone contributes, and not everyone partakes, but the general opinion of almost everybody who tries it is that it's about the best they've ever had ... always different, always good, and every so often, simply outstanding!

I'm just looking forward to the whole thing ...

So are we ... so are we ... :D 8) :D 8)
