New from Ohio

Postby crpngdth2001 » Wed Mar 07, 2012 10:18 am

Greetings everyone! 6+ month lurker, decided to sign up and join the fun.

I've been reading through the Hall of Fame, Build Threads, and all of the informative threads across the sub-forums. The amount of knowledge here is amazing!

I'm still in the planning stages and trying to finalize exactly what is most important to me - but I think I've narrowed it down. I've found a couple of inexpensive chassis to start from, both welded frames. One is a 6x8 popup camper frame, and the other is a 5x10 utility trailer, without the 'structural' sides - just a nice flatbed.

I like the generic Benroy style. I'd like to go without a full galley as many have done, and include 'slide outs' for 2 full size coolers (full), stove/grill storage, propane tank storage, lantern/lights storage, pots-pans-dishes-utensil storage, and basic non-refrigerated food items. Will this cause an issue with that much weight in the back? I do plan to include a tongue box, with either 2 or 4 Six Volt batteries, which I am hoping will help, along with an inverter/charger.

Inside, I am planning on a Queen mattress, lights, radio, wireless internet repeater (with high gain antenna mount that is collapsable to store, mounted to side of frame in receiver), and 12v and 110v outlets (phones, laptops, etc). I will also include storage for a duffel bag or two of clothes & toiletries.

As far as construction goes, the only thing I've decided is to go with pre-manufactured doors and the 14x14 fantastic vent. I may also add a rooftop heater/ac later, even the the smallest units I've found are grossly overpowered for a teardrop. Unfortunately, many of the camping months here in Ohio have some very uncomfortable humidity.

Sorry for the longwinded post, it's already starting to look a little more 'real' just viewing it in print!
