Galley construction

I have been working on the galley. Built the cabinets myself(my first, guess it shows). I am toying with the tile to get the configuration we want. Comments appreciated.
I used a combination of glossy finish with rough cut panels and back wall for contrast, and for a rustic look.

I love the ceramic counter top in chubby when ya got to plop down a hot skillet because it's burnin' a hole in your palm you don't have to look for a trivet.

That looks really good. I too, love the look of the tiles. I am wanting to put ceramic tile in our galley, but I am worried about weight, so when I get to that point, I am planning to weigh the trailer and see how the weight balance turned out and if I can, tile our countertop.

I keep hearing the weight argument and upsetting the weight balance. 1/4 inch ceramic tile weighs 2.7 pounds per Square Foot so a 2 foot deep counter on a 5' wide would be a whopping 27 pounds. A sink cutout reduces it by about 3 pounds and a fixed cooktop may reduce weight another 4 to 5. Leave the trivet the cutting board and a few unneeded hot pads home and you have reduced a couple more pounds. So we are down to about 2 1/2 gallons of water weight so fill the water jug when ya get there. As said it's YOUR galley and YOUR style of camp cookin' that dictates YOUR build so do it YOUR way

I don't think anybody is tellin him to NOT put in the tile, jus makin mention of the weight factor.

I'd suggest using sanded caulk (Home Depot, etc, in the tile section, but very limited color choices) so you do not have to worry about grout lines cracking.

I used white 100% silicone as the adhesive and the grout. It has surpassed the 5 year 5000 mile warranty and still looks like day one

Bob, feel free to give me all the crap you feel like. You still haven't seen the dome light you gave me in use.

I was also thinking that I would use silicone caulk to replace the grout. We had a kitchen table for several years that was tile topped, but had silicone caulk for grout.

I really have no idea why I even commented on this thread, since my galley is still strictly conceptual. It seems that my ideas for our galley change every few days.

I used epoxy grout on our countertop. It's not much different to apply than standard grout, other than you can't dilly-dally once you have the two components mixed together.
