Cardinal and window

Postby pete42 » Sat Apr 07, 2012 7:30 am

I have a cardinal (bird) who keeps sitting at my bedroom window trying to fly through the window
I think he sees his refelection and is looking for a mate I don't care that he is there but I wish he would
not start so early in the morning he's quite loud.
I should try to get him or her to move on any ideas?

Cardinal and window

See if you can change the reflection, Pete. If the blinds/drapes are closed when he does this, then open them, of vise-versa.

Yes, he's either seeing a mate or competition....

Cardinals are territorial and he sees the "other male" as a threat. He is likely to continue this activity and you need to kill the reflection or he will continue, an inside light or dulling spray come to mind.

If you kill the source of the reflection, he won't continue...Just a thought

You could try hanging a piece of window screen over the outside of the glass.
That should kill the reflection without obstructing your view
If it ain't broke, fix it till it is

print off a picture of a cat or owl or hawk and place it in the window

A BB gun should kill the reflection.

Well the last thing I killed was a mouse and he could have lived if he would have stayed outside in the corn field.
I pulled down the blind he went to the other bedroom window I taped a white piece of paper to the window he stopped
I hope that is all it takes to get him interested in something else, they are our state bird.

Just be thankful that you are not in South Dakota, as our state bird is the RIngneck Pheasant, and there is a good chance that if one flew into a window, the window would lose.
If I could shut my brain off, I could save myself alot of time, money and effort.

Sounds like you've got it figured out...he is attacking his competition, as his bird brain sees it. They don't get windows and reflection that isn't in water.

And yeah, you shouldn't kill the state bird. That's a no-no. Sounds like you wouldn't do that anyway :)
