First trip with my weekender

Well I went to the Eastern Shore to a gathering with the Chesapeake Tearjerkers and to see and help out with a Foamie build for Louella. I'm really happy with the fact that I retained my gas mileage with my jeep. Still only getting 16.5 to 17 mpg which is about what I get around town without the camper. I don't know what my camper weighs but it pulled nicely behind the jeep and didn't seem to be effected by wind but big trucks sure moved me around, but they do that to me without the camper. I had a great time with everyone at Louella's and a great first outing with my camper. Thanks Mike for the weekender plans, no curves, just straight lines to follow just what a beginner needs to work with. I still haven't put in a galley but who knows maybe one day I will but for now I'll use it as is.Larry

For me, I find I sometimes make better choices by taking my time with options. If and when you decide what else you want to do to your camper, atleast you will have had more time to think exactally what you want!

larry has some really cool windows, and i just stole his idea. tomorrow hubby should be cutting my plexi to fit the framing i added today. thanks so much larry for those windows!

I got the design off a boat. It's called a Wiley window after the designers name, Ralph Wiley. They were in a trawler named Passagemaker and they're also on another one which is in the marina at Blades, DE. Simple design in which a piece of lexan sits in a trangular shelf where the wedge either pushes it open or closed. Cheap to build and easy to use. Larry

Hey Dan. If you go to Member design and look at "Mikes Weekender" look in the Picaso account, Don't ask me how I got it there because I don't have a clue, there are pictures of the door and the wedge for the window. It was cheap and easy to do, saved a lot of gas money there.Larry

looking good your doors are interesting are those a shutter mod ?

I don't know about the shutter mod but I got the idea from a couple of boats that had that window on them. The window style is a design by Naval archetek, Ralph Wiley. What you do is create a Vee which has a piece of glass which is held in place with a pair of wedges, either open or closed. The way my windows are positioned on my doors is low enough that I can open them up some from the bottom and still open the door. If you lay the window back in the open position and it starts to rain it is almost impossible for it to rain into your window. That and the fact that they are so simple to build, cheap, makes them neat to me.Larry

I used the same window design on my Weekender windows; they turned out well - durable, easy to use, and they don't leak in the rain on the highway.

Hey John, I like it. Nice weekender. I want to paint mine a two tone but right now it's all almond colored and later I'll do a second green to match my jeep. But I like your colors too.

How did you mount your airconditioner. Does it stay in all the time or do you put it in when you need it. Larry
