Member of TnTT vs Guest

Postby Vedette » Wed Oct 17, 2012 6:28 pm

Last night while at a friends place I thought I would show him the udated pictures of Miss Piggy I had posted on my "Album".
I had my friend just google TnTT and find a recent post from me so he could view my album.
As a guest he was unable to view the Album as the icons that are usually there for me were not there????
I realized that "Guests" to this Forum do not get the whole picture.
So I am asking......With the ease of becoming a member.....Why would anyone just visit this Forum as a "Guest"???????

I agree. It is much more fun as a member.

Hi Ray
How is the camping season down your way?
Do you go to the Dam gathering in May?

It's kind of like looking and smelling the baked goods in a bakery without buying or eating any of them. Looking through the glass and the good smells are free and they still give you a thrill. There's no commitment but you still get to enjoy a little bit.

Sometimes, members visit as "guests" because they simply don't have the time, right then, to look at everything. Once you log on, you have to look at all the new posts because, if you don't, they may not show up as new posts later and you could miss something. When searching for an answer to a question, sometimes all you need are the words, not the pictures, and you don't need to log on...you need to get back to building!

Looking as a guest allows you to look at a specific thread that you are following or see if there is something that you want to log on and add a comment to; or, you might want to check to see if anyone has commented or questioned your posting or read what has been posted without being tempted to comment. That's when you might simply look up the thread as a "Guest". You may want to check a particular thread that you are partial to and following and not read every other active thread. I think that family members of people who have build threads often do this and many aren't comfortable with joining a forum that they will not be personally involved with.

Others may want to simply read what is going on to see if they want to commit to becoming a member. Those are called "lurkers". Lurkers sometimes want to check to see if a particular forum is made up of good people or is mostly made up of hot air and trouble.

So, there are reasons.....

PS. You used to be able to see the albums and and even copy pictures to your PC but I understand that they changed that to encourage joining and discourage picture theft.

Visiting as a guest allows one to look at the site and see if they want to join.... Sort of like "test drive" in a car with out having to commit to buy....I sort of like the idea of having a look at the neighborhood to see what its like before I move in....

Its' like being able to go to a I-net retail site and being able to buy something as a guest without have to sign up and becoming a member..... I have membership all over the place I have forgotten or ignore or will never use again because of the "sites" stupid rules you have to "register" to see something or buy something and as far as I am concerned its only going to be a one time visit... And If I do go back its hassle of trying to log in again and remembering the long forgotten password....

Its like on my website.... You can visit and see everything and not have to be a member.... But without registration you can not leave any messages.... But yes you can do the "test drive"...

I just finished up my TD barely in enough time to go to IRG. I'm planning on going to the Dam gathering, how do I get my reservations in? I wanted to go camping this weekend, the weather looks great but I'm also involved in a car club and they want me to display my car and TD at an event this Saturday. I'm definitely getting the urge to get away somewhere and sleep in the Jelly Bean.

Dale, you're right with all the passwords to remember, I have so many that my head spins. :? On most of these sites I use the same long in and password if I can and most are remembered on my computer I use all the time. Being a guest does allow one to lurk to see if they are a good fit for the forum and I do admit that I do that on a new site. I'm not so sure I want my information out there on some of them. It is much more fun being a member of something you want to be involved in. :applause:
