Did anyone flee Sandy with a TD or TTT?

Postby Roly Nelson » Tue Oct 30, 2012 9:39 pm

I'm curious to know if some of our trailer folks took advantage of their rigs to flee the disaster created by Sandy. My TD sits ready and filled with provisions, just in case of a rare, dreaded earthquake here in So Calif. Perhaps it will never happen, but I remember the Northridge Quake, and sat through it, as we wrere rocking and rolling for 20 seconds, in the upper bedroom of my 5th wheel trailer. If the roof were to caved in, we would have been in fine shape, since some 2x2s and 1/8th in plywood probably wouldn't have killed us.

Well I sort of did. I "lived" on a sailboat in central NJ and we were suposed to get hit hard so I hooked up my lil vardo and towed it to my parents house more inland NJ. Good thing because when the 12+ foot above normal tide flooded the parkinglot and floated some boats off their jack stands my lv would have been swamped or destroyed...as it is my motorsailor is probably trashed. A whole in the bow, shattered bent window frames in the pilot house and lots of wear spots all over the boat in the fiberglass and cracks all over...and from what I hear from the marina, the big jumbled mess of boats will probably be there till spring cause they have about another month till its too cold to be playing in the water...so the damage will only increase. Thank god for insurance...but who knows how long that will take!

Hi Deryk,

Sorry to hear about your 'floating home'.

As we all know, the important thing is that: YOU are safe.

And a big plus is you were able to save your Lil Vardo too.

Good luck as you try to get back to 'normal' living conditions.
I'm sure your resourcefulness will aid you with that.

Cheers,
Norm/mezmo

Thanks Guys! Yeah personal safety is ranked pretty high with me...Ive heard stories of people rideing out hurracaines on their boats... I will pass on that one lol. Im waiting on the insurance company and fema to call me back... Hopefully it wont take too terribly long for a payoff, but the marina was pretty much destroyed and winter is right around the corner, so who knows...But Im gonna be optimistic about the whole thing.

  So sorry to hear about the boat. Boy I am sure glad you got off it cause :? That has got to be sickening. Hang in there, the insurance companies will get to you. If it was your primary home you might let them know so they will hurry... :D We had a check in a week when our home was taken out. Well actually we had money the day after we called. Hartford did a good job with us. :worship: Hope your luck is as good.

Deryk, I'm glad you're fine. I hate the thought of your floating house being destroyed, but having YOU make it through Sandy is the best thing. Take care, and I'm hoping you get a permanent home soon, whether floating or on land.
