re-introducing myself

Postby trabant » Mon Jul 09, 2007 5:13 pm

Hello all,

Please allow me to re-introduce myself.

I am Michael Staats from Almere in the Netherlands.

Since quite a while I am more or less a lurker on this forum but today was the big day............... I have my own Teardrop!!!

It is a small 2 meter x 1,2 meter tear without a kitchen. The entrance is from the back.. A good friend of mine got the idea some 7 years ago and got one build by another member of out Dutch Trabantclub.. It was build on the frames of an original cargotrailer build in the GDR in 1989. Sadly he never used it and it sat in his shed for about 4 years before another, young, member f the Trabantclub wanted to use it and my friend borrowed him the trailer.. The young guy used it a few times but there it spend more time in the shed then that it was used.. Last week I told my friend that I wanted to finish the trailer and use it behind my Trabant 601 convertible... He was amazed and made some phonecalls... Tonight we picked the trailer upand the young bloke had not been a good keeper... The trailer has some damage and needs a complete restauration.... So that will keep me busy for the next months..... She needs to be ready in may 2008 when we have our big annual trabimeeting here in Holland.....

Bt as pictures say more than 1000 words.... Here are 2 pictures..

I will keep you posted on the restaurationprogress...

Hi Michael, looks like you have a nice little teardrop there. I wonder if one and a half meters is long enough for a bed on the inside. If my math is right, that's only about 5 feet. Sure hope you don't have to sleep with your feet sticking out of the hatch lid. You probably have one of the few teardrops in all of the Neatherlands. Good luck on your efforts to make it work for you, you have come to the right place if you have any questions.

That's a nice little trailer, Michael. Welcome to the forum. Thank you for including pictures. We look forward to seeing more as you get a chance to get out and camp with your little trailer.
Still graced with two eyes and ten fingers (due in no small part to luck!).

Just when you think a problem is solved, an uglier result replaces it.

:o Image Back Michael!

That is so cute! I think 2 meters is a good length for a teardrop without a kitchen.

Roly,

The bed is about 1,95 meters long so no problem fitting in the bed.... I am about 1,85 meters so that will go without a problem....

And everybody else: Thanks for all the positive response on the pictures.. I will keep you guys posted on the progress of this little tear...

The biggest job will be replacing the wooden skin on the lid... In the past something dropped on it and there is a big hole in the wood... so one of the first jobs will be replacing that..

This picture shows the car that will pull the Tear:

My Trabant 601 convertible. She has an engine of only 600cc and about 26hp...... But thank god wih a very effective 4 speed manual gearbox.. She can pull this little tear without a problem...

Michael, welcome. A convertible Trabbie - how cool! That 2-stroke put-put noise they make is just so pleasant and with a convertible, you can enjoy it too.

Your trailer looks like it may be based on the Ailette trailer made in France:

There was also an identical trailer made in the GDR, called Eig-something, I think.

And here are a couple of home-made similar trailers at a German diesel motorcycle rally:

Michael, can you please reduce your photos to a maximum width of 800 pixels (600 is enough, really), so the page doesn't get expanded, like this one has.

Hello Angib,

Yea the small trailer is based on these small trailers.... They are very cute.... This one was build in Holland to drawings supplied by the German BMW Isettaclub...

Then about the pictures.. I have to try another host for my picures as teh service I use now automatically changes the size to 1024... It doesn't allow me to make the pictures smaller... When I upload the pictures to it in a smaller size the picture is displayed in 1024.... I have an album on Teardrops.us but I can't get all the pictures of that one since the serverchange a year ago... What to do about it.....??????????

Regards,

Michael

Michael,

I don't understand the problem with teardrops.us as that works fine for me. You don't seem to have an album at teardrops.us so you might want to pm 'bg' and ask for a new album.

Or else there are many free photo storage sites without the restrictions of zoom.nl - I use http://photobucket.com/ and it works fine with the forum.

I think the filenames got changed when it was switched over. Since the filename got changed, it will create a dead link for any hyperlink that points to it. All the files should still be there that is, if you can logon to your account.

Michael, that's an excellent link. I've never seen the boat idea before which explains some of its shape.

AND it doesn't make me feel too stupid as 'Eig-something' and 'EIS Piccolo' aren't too far apart!
